installing your new lux products thermostat is easy we will demonstrate installing a new lux products TX 9600 touchscreen thermostat other Lux models will have similar installation procedures be sure to refer to the installation and operating instructions guide for the Lux thermostat model you are installing to ensure it is compatible with your heating and cooling system for more information about matching Lux thermostats to a particular heating or cooling system please see our educational video entitled how to select a Lux thermostat that's right for you in your home now let's get started installing your new Lux thermostat you will want to have the following tools available screwdriver wire stripper wire cutters and for new installations at drill and assorted drill bits will be needed for replacement installations mount your new thermostat and place of the old one if your old thermostat was not located in an optimal location you may want to relocate it an optimal location would include mounting your thermostat on an inside wall about 5 feet above the floor avoid locating the thermostat in a corner or alcove or behind a door that can be left open also do not locate your thermostat where unusual heating or cooling conditions may be present to start turn off the power to your heating and cooling system in your main electrical panel do not turn the power back on until installation is complete remove the front portion of your old thermostat to expose the wall plate and wiring connections like this before disconnecting the wires write down the letters printed near each wire terminal that is used and the color of the wire connected to each corresponding terminal also label each wire using these self-adhesive wire letter labels included with your new thermostat this will help you keep track of your wires carefully remove the wires one at a time and bend them in such a way they do not fall back inside the wall do not allow bare wire ends to touch each other loosen the mounting screws for the old thermostat and carefully remove it from the wall if you are replacing a thermostat that contains mercury in a sealed tube please visit earth nine-one-one comm to find a recycling center near you to properly dispose of it strip wire insulation leaving only three-eighths of an inch of bare wire ends and clean off any corrosion present fill the wall opening with non combustible insulation to prevent drafts from affecting the thermostats normal operation pop the thermostat open by pressing the thumb latch at the bottom center of the unit and separate the wall plate route the wires through the opening on the new thermostat baseplate and hold the base against the wall try to line up the screw holes from the prior thermostat and install the mounting screws now attach the wires by matching the assign letter for each wire to the letter printed on the new wall plate when attaching the wires to the thermostat please ensure that the bare wire ends are held all the way into the terminal block while the screw is being tightened please note that although the baseplate for many Lux thermostats are similar in visual appearance they are however not interchangeable doing so may cause undesired heating and or cooling operation to occur if you're having trouble matching the terminal letters on the old thermostat to the terminal letters on the new thermostat call eight five six two three four eight eight zero three for technical assistance or email us at tech support at lux products comm install two new double a alkaline batteries and attach your new Lux thermostat onto the wall plate like that restore power to all Heating and Cooling components in your main electrical panel your new Lux thermostat is installed and ready to go to learn how easy it is to program your new thermostat please see our educational video how to program your Lux thermostat for ultimate comfort and energy savings
