Today, we are surf fishing. And we're going to
talk about one of the most popular rigs for surf fishing, which is called the surf rig or bottom rig. This rig is typically used when fishing in the surf because it keeps your bait mostly stationary in the sand and allows the bait to swim freely close to the weight. You use this when you are targeting species that are
common in the surf such as pompano, whiting, bluefish and other species you might find running along the troughs here at the beach. To make a surf rig, you'll need a pyramid sinker, a piece of leader material or heavier monofilament or flourocarbon material and either a three-way swivel, or a two-way swivel and snaps to hold everything together. You'll attach your fishing line to part of the swivel here, one of the eyes and then you'll also attach a smaller
piece of line to another eye on the swivel. And the other end goes to your pyramid sinker. You could also put a snap on the sinker if you want to be able to change out your weight. depending on how big your bait is and what you are targeting. Then, you'll have a longer piece of leader material tied to the final eye of your swivel and then you'll attach a hook, such as the circle hook on here, as well as something like live bait that can swim around on the bottom to attract the fish. Once you have your surf rig ready, you can go fish with it and see what you catch.
