hi guys Stephanie from Carrick Nation here in today's tutorial we're going to learn how to do a 3d spider-man minion first of all we're going to cover the bod that the minion is going to sit on so I've got a 10-inch bod and my minion is a 5-inch minion kick which is I think about two and a half of the five inch cake stacked so I've got my body decided to go with grace for this one so I'm just covering it as you can see and trimming off any excess and just rolling it back out again to make sure that it's really smooth once you're happy with the covering of the board I've got a silver metal ruler here that I'm just going to use to make lines across the board to make metal squares and then I'm going to use my stitching tool just the smooth side actually fits in there just to go over the lines to make them a little bit deeper if it's needed once that's done and the whole board is covered I'm going to use the tip of my pen brush and I'm just going to do four dots in each corner of the squares to give the effect of a metal floor once you're happy with the board if you leave that somewhere to dry and then we're going to move on to stacking the cakes so I've got a thin 5 inch and cake board and I've got another one which i think is a 7 inch this will just make it easier for me to turn it around so I'm just slicing the toddler cakes in half and then stacking them fill in with the jam and the buttercream top cake I'm just going to try and take off the top and the sides just to round it off a little bit this will make it easier when it goes on top of the cake just to blend in those lines to give it the minion ship move the excess kick out of the way and then put your filling on to the top I don't know whether you can see quite clearly there but you've got all five steps and then we're just going to cover the outside in buttercream just to stick it all together to stop the cake moving about everywhere you want to place two dowels in the middle of the cake I actually ran out of dowel so I'm using some straws just to keep that in place just carry on filling with the buttercream and smoothing it out using the base of the other cake bar just to turn they care crown doesn't what you needed to so when you fill in the top of the cake usually the dowels would sit into the top of the cake so there would have been no need to actually move them out of place but these drugs were a little bit long and I didn't want to trim them and get them lost in the cake so I took these out to fill the top of the cake and then I decided to just try some kabob skewers instead just to see how they would go and holding the cakes into place once you've covered your kick I like to leave my buttercream to dry for at least six hours just so the cakes firmer and it's not moving about everywhere and you're not getting the Bulge in that sometimes some people get when they're filling their cake and then once it's have that time to dry then that's when I go understand cover the cake got some red fondant and this is what I'm going to use to cover the spider-man cake you can see in the background there is the cake that I've got you can see also my right corner that's my daughter and I tried a new method when I covered this cake where you cut the top so you put the top it on and then cut it around and then cut a strip of red out and that would go around the bottom and then the black bit that's used for the goggle is what hides the join I tried this method because I've done a few minions and one thing that I still sometimes struggle with is the joining at the bottom when you're trying to smooth the cake and stopping it from rifkin personal preference I would cover all in one girl obviously for this tutorial this is the methods that I tried this is probably easy I would serve for beginners or people that are not that confident in covering the cake if you do decide to go for the all-in-one method you just roll out one magic piece of fondant and place on top of the minion make sure we secure the head first and then you just keep Fanning it out just to make sure that it's smooth and then trim off any excess if you do have any sort of cracks in the icing where it joins you know at the bottom where you sometimes get the flare don't worry because the minions wear dungarees anyways so that does actually cover that in the end but I thought I'd give this where girl and I preferred to stick to the garland one method so I've covered the top and trimmed around to make a straight line and now I'm going to do the same for the bit that's going to wrap around the base as the minion so I've cooked it rough size and it's a little bit too big so I'm just going to take off a little bit more and then try to fit that round so just sticking it down and smoothing it as you go make sure that the join is at the back and now the front of the minion silly it's not going to be seen by anybody and just make sure that the join is as close together as it possibly can and you a little bit of water just to stick that down and then just smoothing it out a little bit with the smoother and I'm just using some water just to stick the top and the bottom bits together and just doing that all the way around the cake once you're happy with the covering that you've got we need to roll out some black for the goggles this needs to be quite thin again I've got one of my other children trying to help me in the corner there so sorry about that once the blacks rolls out you just cut a long slit quite a thick strip and this is going to be for the goggles and this will sit on top of the line that you've got there so just that joint fit that around and take off any excess and then the next thing we're going to do is we're going to work on the dungarees so I've got some funds in here that I've colored in blue and I'm just rolling out of thin strips that will be long enough to actually fit around the bottom of the minion so again you just want to trim it and it's roughly the same size I've got the bars we're actually using the lines on the bar just to sort of have a rough estimate to make sure is quite similar in size I will put a link in the description box where to get these from just in case you wanted to get one so just fit the blue around the back again making sure the join is at the back of the minion and just using some water or some edible glue just stick that down so next I've got my stitching tool and I'm just going to do that just along the top edge of the dungarees and this just gives it a bit more fabric effects than just leaving it plain now we're going to work on the front of the dungarees for the minion so we're just cutting out the dungarees ship testing it for size against the minion taking off any excess if you needed to and then using your stitching tool to go all the way around and using some wild to our edible glue just to stick that on the front of the minion when you stick it on make sure it comes away slightly just to give it a bit of movement and using the other end of your stitching tool to create some lines then we're going to do the straps for the dungarees so again the symbaloo rolling out quite thin and making sure that it's roughly the same size I've done it the thickness of about one of these cubes all the way along and then cutting that in half using your stitching tool just to go around either side and then glue in that on again with your water or your edible glue just create in a little hole there it's going to be a button like just to dry knit onto the front of the dongle raise we're going to make the front pocket for the minion dungarees and again just stitching all the way around and sticking that on leaving a little bit of a gap to give it some movement next we're going to paint the spider-man effects on the minion so you want to go a whole horizontal line across you don't need to do because that's where the goggles are going to be so you need to do your vertical line down and then diagonally across and then you're painting the webstorm it can take about half an hour to pin all that on the front and the back of the minion taking your blue we're going to roll some legs for the minion you want needs to be roughly the same size and same thickness once you're happy if you cut the diagonal line just so it sticks on to the side of the minion perfectly next we're going to do the arms so again you want to roll some red keep it the same thickness and again kick off the side so that it sticks on front of Dominion and then stick that on with your edible glue on the water next we're going to do these shoes for the minion so two black balls wrote rolling each one slightly and irvil and then on the back just creating the line so that it looks more like a shoe and then again we're going to stick these on with some water or some edible glue you so the hand you want two black circles roughly the same size you need to squeeze in at the bottom of one end and then use your thumb to create a bit whether arm is then going to sit in to the glove cut out your triangles and then smooth the edges just to make them a bit round and then as you can see I've just stuck that on with some water doing the same again from the other one so just using my thumb to pull out there so that's where the arm is going to sit in and then using my knife to cut out the lines there and then smoothen the edges just to give it a more of a rounded feel next we're going to roll out some spikes for the hair so again just got some black fondant rolling out the spike roughly about the same size we are going to use some cocktail sticks just stick these into the head just to make sure the don't fall over because it is fondant it is quite soft and we want it to be fairly straight and the cocktail sticks just help with that so once you've got your number that you've crafting custom maybe nine odd numbers always look better than even numbers but once you're happy with what you've got put your cocktail sticks in the bottom I tended to put the cocktail stick in the head first a little bit of water and then stick the black over the top just so that you're not squashing the fondant that you've already made into your car next we're going to work on the eye so if you take some white fondant and roll that out and then one of your circle cutters to cut that out you want to make sure that this quite thin and we've got some green for the eyeball itself and then we've got some red for the eyelid so you want to roll out your green quite thin and stick that on in the middle then I've got some Jade sugar flour and some spruce cream sugar Flair and I'm going to use those to color in the eye so the jade green is going to go on the outside and then the sprue screen I'm going to use that to draw lines from the outside in I'm going to wet my brush take off them if that water and then start to pull those colors in so you can see what I'm doing there and it just gives a really good effect once you're happy with the color of your eyes you have some black fondant that you roll out and stick that in the middle of the pupil and then just use some water or edible glue to stick that on the face using the same size circle cutter as before we're going to roll out some white fondant a little bit thicker this time and trim that to size and wrap it just around the circle cutter this is going to now form the goggle effect I've chosen to do it in white and then I'm going to paint it silver towards the end just give it a couple of seconds just to set around the goggle and then you just want to wet around the eye and then this is going to stick on there while that's drying I'm going to take some more of my white fondant and just roll out some little dots here and these are going to stick around the goggle just to give the same effect as what the minions have the two circles that are rolled there you can see I'm just sticking on the eye and that's going to give the effect of the light reflecting so again just the water and sticking that on making sure the drawing goes at the bottom of the eye and not the top of the eye and then I'm using some cocktail sticks just to keep that in place stop it from drooping down a little cubes there's a little cylinders that are made they're going to stick on around the frame so you can see there I've got some rockin silver and I'm just going to mix that with a little bit of lemon extract and then start to paint the goggles once you're happy with the coverage you then want to stick your cylinders that you made on earlier so you want your I think those eighteen turtle I find it easier to put the top aside and the bottom on first and then just stick the others in between all of those using water to stick these on and once I'm happy with that I'm just going to again cover them with the welcome silver and we going to use some of the gloss now just for the eye just to give it a more realistic effect so just painting that on and then that leaving that to dry while at Australian I'm just going to pin on the spider-man effect on the arms and then I'm mixing some silver and some black together and going around the whole of the minion just to give it a shadow effect around the base and then going to go in and I'm going to fill in the individual lines that are on the face of the board this just gives it a little bit more depth and then make it look a little bit more real I'm using a really fine brush and I'm just going around the goggles close to the eye and around any of the joining just to give it a little bit of shadowing this just makes it look a little bit more realistic once you're happy with that if you take again the black and the silver and just do what I'm doing where you're filling in the joins of the squares on the best and then just using the brush to take the excess off and coloring your squares this just gives it a little bit more realistic effect and make it look like it's actually got some shadows and some depth once you finish with that if you take some of the blue sugar flare dust that I've got put the link in the description box below and just fill in any of the creases on the dungarees and again this just gives it a little bit more depth and make it look a little bit more realistic so once you've done this is what you should end up with I hope you
