Please explain how to cover a cake with fondant & decorate it - anniversary cake by pink cake princess

welcome to pink cake princess i am andrea and i'm going to continue with the progression of this particular cake you've seen how to create the chocolate cake and also the ganache recipe you've also seen how i've ganached the cake and now i'm going to show you how to cover and decorate the cake with fondant icing once your cake is prepared you can decorate any way you want but i'm going to show you how to do it with the numbers and the letters at the end of this video i'm just lightly brushing my ganache cake that i've taken out of the fridge i don't want water dripping everywhere i just want a light coat so that the fondant can stick to the cake okay now on my table i've laid out a plastic tablecloth and i'm just wiping it down to get rid of any excess of dust or particles that may be on there i'm using some white fondant icing i'm using the kel's pettiness icing i'm using my serrated knife to cut out a big chunk of icing [Applause] i'm going to cover up the excess with some cling wrap and bag it up tying it up so that hair doesn't get to it okay now this stage i'm going to wrap up my excess fondant that i'm not going to use straight away so that it doesn't dry out and my other main piece of fondant if i need it now it's going to be really really hard as it's just come out of the packet so what i'm going to do i'm going to put it on a plate and put in the microwave for about 10 seconds until it warms up enough for me to knead it up it needs to be pliable and loose enough to be able to be rolled out to the right size so that i can cover my cake okay now rolling out my fondant i'm using some corn flour in my corn flour bag to dust my surfaces and i've also used a pin to bust any bubbles or air bubbles that may be in the fondant as i'm rolling okay now i've got my chocolate ganache cake there just measuring the length that i'm going to need in my fondant making sure that i've rolled it wide enough and now i'm going to use my mat to help me lift up the fondant and i'm going to place it on top of my cake smoothing over at the top to get rid of any air bubbles using my cake smoother to smooth over the top and now gently carefully not stretching the fondant but just lifting it up and just using my hands just to shape the fondant around the cake slowly smoothing the fondant down careful to get rid of any air bubbles as i'm going along and using my cake smoother just to smooth the fondant i'm going to show you another couple of ways to smooth the fondant as well as using these acrylic smoothers i'm going to use a couple of clear sheets of acetate film that i've trimmed down acetate film is similar to the material of the shirt box or the plastic in a toy box it's just very flexible that you can use it around your cake and smooth the fondant with just by buffing around the cake now i'm using my pizza cutter to cut off my excess fondant and i'm using my excess fondant to also buff around the cake this is just another method to smooth fondant if you haven't got a regular cake smoother and then using my acetate film sheet i'm just going to go around and trim off the excess around the bottom of the cake you can just use your pizza roller cutter to do this part but i prefer doing it with the acetate film because it gives me a really smooth cut at the bottom as i can cut straight down [Applause] okay now onto some more white fondant i'm going to be covering my cake board the cake board is a 12 inch cake board i'm using a bit of water just to wipe over my cake board and placing my fondant on top smoothing it over with my hands and now i'm going to trim off my excess fondant on the edges with my craft knife [Applause] okay i'm just going to place some ribbon around the edge of my cake board just burning the ends so that it doesn't fray and using my edible cake glue to run around the edge of the cake board you can also use a non-toxic craft glue my ribbon gently on trimming the excess off and again using my lighter to stop the ribbon from frying now cutting off some styrofoam pieces to put at the bottom of my cake board to create pleats just so that you can lift up the cake once it's sitting on the table using some crafts glue to stick it onto the bottom of my cake board if this was for a heavier cake i wouldn't use wooden cleats okay smoothing the cake board over with my smoother and that's it that's your covered cake board ready to go okay i'm using a little bit of royal icing at the bottom to glue on my cake now i'm just going to lift up the cake and use my flat spatula to help me place it onto the cake board and then i'm just going to make sure that it's centered on the cake board once that's done you have a perfect blank canvas to decorate however you like so how would you decorate this cake comment below you could place cupcakes around it to create a cupcake cake you can also use some of my cupcake toppers like my minted thai tea cupcakes to create a miniature cake you can use my science cake toppers to place it on an 8 inch cake or here i'm just going to show you how to finish off the cake with simple ribbons and a few numbers and a simple message i'm going to place a ribbon around the base of the cake and i'm going to attach it with a little bit of royal icing you can if you want place a pin here while it's drying and just remember to remove the pin once it's going to be served i'm doing a double ribbon so i'm placing another ribbon slightly raised up from the first one and again attaching with some royal icing if you are liking this tutorial don't forget to click the like button below and also click add to favorites to save it for future reference okay i'm going to use some letters that i've cut out in fondant and i'm going to use some numbers that i've created with wires to place into the cake you can see how i create the numbers and the letters in my next tutorial if you click the link at the end of the video okay attaching the letters to form the message and now inserting the numbers on top of the cake and to finish off the message i'm just going to paint the lettuce with an edible silver paint and that's it that's the cake completed hope you guys
