Please explain how to caulk | house painting

we're gonna talk a little bit about caulking and I've inspected this area next to the baseboard and there's a huge gouge here where an old wire was torn out you know I'm scraping it clean and it looks like it could be something that if we didn't want to go so in-depth with our joint compound mixes or ready patch or wood filler you might be able to get away with using caulk now I've got here the the lower-end 25-year is a cheaper caulk that is very easy to apply but the higher the year the better there's 35 year clock 50 year caulk etc I might be using here fino saw which is a combination caulk and adhesive it's very strong either one of these is going to shrink a little bit so it's probably going to take two applications but let's take a look this is your standard caulk gun I like to use the one that has a built in needle for puncturing the front of the car now it doesn't really matter what color the clock is because I'm going to paint over it but this is a brand new tube and we generally want to cut the end off okay can use the needle to make sure the is fluid will go I have on hand a very wet rag also let's put it on real thick real deep let it come in come out where it's port routing from the crack a little excess here alright that's definitely gonna sink in it's gonna need more work after this but caulk is still a very easy way to do it make sure my finger is very wet and just smooth it out and let's get a smaller bead down here and again this isn't a perfect restoration no but you saw how damaged it was so this will give me a quick way if I was going around the whole apartment in doing a basic repair all right so that'll sink in and we'll need a second coat but there you go now before I go this edge over here this is more of what you run into in the normal case of an old apartment like this but it still is a pretty rough edge so a lot of times it's good to put a nice clock line there especially if you're having two different paint colors because you want to be able to form a nice line all right your is not sandable that's why you smooth it out carefully with your fingers because whatever effect you get is what you're stuck with okay so we're gonna let that dry its strengths and it sinks in a little bit that's why I might want a second coat of caulk over here that's it on the baseboards so now I'll show one more way of using caulk on an accent wall an accent color another little known use of caulking is on accent walls we're doing a gold color ceiling right up to this edge and then your basic white ceiling starts here so this is gold white and we want a sharp line but I have inconsistencies right here and there's a divot right in the corner that was done in construction so I'm gonna put a clock line right here into the corner and then coming out got my wet rag and I smooth it out we use my finger right in the corner and now take the line out that's going to enable me to use the delicate cut tape to make a perfect line on an accent color it's gonna be awesome
