welcome to Godiva Labradors how to make a whelping bed what you need to buy is wood a furring strip felt furniture pads wood screws wood glue two inch PVC piping and a bottle of waterproofing for wood in addition you're gonna need a screw gun and a saw unless you have the local hardware store make the cuts for you which is what we recommend we chose a more expensive top choice maple hardwood because we're gonna use this as a dog bed after we use it as a whelping bed but you can use particleboard if you'd like and it would be much less expensive at about $19 have the hardware store cut your 4 by 8 into 2 4 by fours and cut one of the four by fours into three equal parts they will be moved the sides and the back of the bed the 1 by 2 by 4 will end up being the front of the bed so that Mommy doesn't hurt herself getting in and out of the bed also cut the furring strip into 2 inches so that you can nail them in the corners to hold the pig rail use wood glue before screwing together the pieces so that it makes it nice and sturdy no one's worth working a secret sawdust with wood glue and helps fill in the cracks put two coats of sealer on the wood and then the felt pads underneath so that it doesn't damage the floor it's sitting on so this is the completed whelping bed after the two coats of protectant and we've got the furring strips in the corners that are screwed in the corners we put two side-by-side so that it would help secure the end as well as hold the pig rail and here's the PVC piping 2-inch with elbows on the end cut just short of that four foot mark so that it fits inside and then the puppies can go underneath the PVC piping so that mom when she lays down doesn't lay on them in advert we layered it with some old yoga mats so that it would protect the front and also inside for the puppies so that they have leverage and can walk around without the layer it would be usable keypad sensitive sawdust we prefer that the puppies don't find it with a big blanket for Coco's comfort until she has the puppies when she's in birth though we used a bunch of towels that we can take out and we had one take out and add during the birth process my husband got created and used wire holder to hold like computer wires and stuff underneath the dust and because I'm going to talk so we can you press it on the edges that's our well boombox thanks for watching and if you liked our video please press the like button below subscribe also if you'd like to see daily puppy videos including their births bye
