anytime you measure for a kilt or a kilted skirt or a mini kilt it's preferable to use a cloth tape measure you can get these at any fabric store if you have one of these around your house I'd like you to double check this using a yardstick match up your cloth tape measure with the yardstick to make sure the measurements are accurate for our semi traditional five-yard wool and premier kilts they are worn at the traditional waist above your belly button so take your tape measure wrap it around the widest part of your belly point your belly button for me which is going to be just above your belly button you want to pull this measurement a little bit snug you don't want any slack in the line yet at the same time you don't want to distort the skin you just want to hold it snug for the hip measurement you want to measure around the widest part of the rear end and you want this to be not quite loose but enough that you can easily slide the tape measure back and forth for the length of our semi traditional five yard wall and in eight yard wool kilts there's three different ways you can measure the first is with assistance point your belly button from the top of where you wanted to wear the kilt above your belly button you're going to measure down the outside of your leg to the middle of the knee the second way is without assistance kneeling down and using a tape measure you're going to go put the zero end of the tape measure on the floor and hold the tape measure at the widest part of your belly making note of the length the last way to measure the length of a kill is what I like to call the bath towel measurement standing roughly ten feet back from a full-length mirror fold over a bath towel to the approximate length you would like your kill hold the bath towel across the top of where you want the kill and looking in the mirror 10 feet back from you see where it hits you on the knee if you need to adjust it up or down just roll the bath towel up or down a little bit to make it the right length once you have the right length on the bath towel using a tape measure measure the bath towel top the bottom you
