hi this is yolanda vanveen and in this segment we're going to talk about how to get rid of crabgrass now crabgrass looks a lot like the grass that grows in your lawn but it's pretty distinguishable because it grows more like a big spider so you have a nice set of grass then all of a sudden you've got this big spidery thick piece of grass in the middle that isn't growing straight it kind of grows out and it doesn't look very appealing so how to get rid of it organically or how to get rid of it without using chemicals so there's a few easy ways to get rid of it first of all a trick I have found is just take boiling water and pour it right into the middle of the crabgrass where the roots are because it'll die immediately so you just pour boiling water right onto the crabgrass and what happens is it kills the crabgrass and it will kill some of the grass around it but when it fills in a lot of times you won't have the crabgrass but the easiest way that I found to get rid of crabgrass is to be diligent because it might take you a couple years to get rid of all of it but every spring and every fall put some compost or potting soil right over that crabgrass and add does tons of grass seed perennial grass seed whatever kind works best in your climate and make sure and thickly add just tons of grass seed and I do that to my lawn anyway all over and wherever there's a dead spot wherever there's clover wherever there's crabgrass put some grass seed butts over it and put it right into compost so cover it up smother it out you can even put leaves on your crabgrass in the fall and it will kill it pretty quickly but it'll kill everything else and then turn around and put grass seed down I just can't say enough about adding grass seed because everyone thinks oh I've got this crabgrass I've got clover and I need to use chemicals to get rid of it but chemicals never really address the issue you need to make it a survival of the fittest and give it grass seed and make sure that the grass seed wins and that way you will have a gorgeous lawn without any weeds
