Please explain how to create side by side stereoscopic (3d) footage from iphone or itouch using kdenlive

there's a fantastic Shh open source video editor on Linux called kdenlive to grab the software and it's free and that's what I'm going to be using to show you how to produce 3d content when it comes to making 3d videos the real trick is just to take two videos at once from two cameras that are about an eye distance apart and that's step one and step two is to deliver those two different videos to one I a time and that bit of a task is actually done by YouTube they've got various ways of delivering each video to the left and right I so all we need to do is sort out the first part well luckily a lot of us have devices like these iphones ipod touches rather mobile phones that that have video cameras in them and so i'm going to show you how you can you can use these devices to to create 3d videos on youtube so you need to be able to capture the video and so you need to get ahold of your your cameras in a position nice and steady so they're only I distance apart and the expensive bit equipment you need to do that there's something like this just this card forward and with holes cut in it and you can just stick your your phones and your ipod touches and they're like this then you just start them and pull them up like that and snap away or take your simultaneous footage like that so yeah once you've captured your video just get your video files off these devices in the way you normally would but try and note down which one we you are using for the left thigh and with time you're on it you're using for the right I'd and when you upload those videos label them left thigh and right eye so you don't get confused that which file belongs to which can be a little bit for you to tell once you've got them onto hunty computer what we're going to be doing is producing video for youtube that's as described on youtubes help documentation on articles on help articles uploading editing videos learn more 3d content in their in their health thing and the sort of information you go on that page is illustrated on this slide here this is the hint on how you you produced the video essentially what you need to end up with is a 16 29 ratio frame that has left I footage on the left hand side and right I've footage on the right hand side in the one frame side by side and but the video on those sides need to be squashed by fifty percent in the horizontal axis so that your the resulting footage is still 16 29 so that the video you upload is extended iron see you know 269 ratio it's a film and you squash them both down in the in the horizontality percent and you join them together to make another 16 29 ratio film in the example shown on the YouTube help site they they merge them and they shrink them down what I'm going to do is actually strengthen down then merge them so it's essentially the same thing first step is to get your videos the left and right I into your project and then right click and select properties and advanced and change pixel aspect ratio 2.5 and so you do that for both left and right I you and then you drag those on to the Haunted video timeline I'm park with the left eye on video one and the right iron video too and you also want to make sure your videos are aligned as accurately as possible so it's good if they've got some audio on them because you can use the audio to line your videos and you can play them back and make sure you don't hear any echo there's any echoes in it that's a sign that you haven't got them completely aligned signals that you can use that audio the the audio sort of an audio cue to see them whether a line we can also see the on the thumbnail of the audio whether they're they're aligned as well and what I've done on mine was once i had them align and it was very aleko in the audio actually muted the audio track on one of my videos so that it got got rid of those still a slight echo and I got rid of that by muting the audio track but after you've gotten left and right light footage on the timeline you add a transition video transition it's a composite transition and in the alpha channel operation make it so it's over and defaults having a line and fill checked you need to uncheck a line and fill so once you get a composite transition in place which should extend over the entire link the video you then and pan and zoom effects to both left and right I videos on the left I you are put pan and zoom minus 256 for the X and like the y at zero and the right hype of pan and zoom plus 256 so the videos as they come off the iphone or 1024 by 576 pixels in dimension and then they've been compressed by fifty percent in the in the horizontal dimension so there are 5 12 by 576 and then we want to move them across half that distance so we put a left i pan and zoom x factor of minus 256 on the right now i put pan and zoom the pan factor X of plus 256 and as you can see that makes them appear as they do on the on this shot here side by side so once you've done that the other video should look like it appears in this screenshot with the left eye on the left side of the of the footage and the right I footage on the right side of the UM of the screen and they should be compressed horizontally to live so they fit now I'm my footage I had my footage 11 came off an iphone and one came off and I itouch like that all ipod touch and i noticed that the the iphone produced tighter footage it was wounding more than the itouch so as I would actually correct this in in pan and zoom as well so to zoom one of my one life it's a footage in by one hundred and twenty-seven percent because it's important for you your videos to be the same size would be ideal if both cameras are identical my bug my cameras weren't two identical but I was able to compensate for that but using the kdenlive so the editing in kdenlive is pretty much three just three steps you change the pixel aspect ratio of your footage so that it's compressed fifty percent in the horizontal direction you put your that step one step two is to put both those left and right I footage a--'s onto the timeline of your video and put a composite transition between the two of them and I'll line them so they're align properly and step three is to do pan and zoom on those fridges so that one lives on the left and won't live on the right over your image once you've done that you basically got your video setup ready for for rendering and uploading to youtube so just go ahead and render that as you render the whole raw footage in 3d to a DV file and then you can go ahead of that DV file it just makes life easier you have a nice TV footage of your obvious side by side stereo scopic footage and then you can edit it as you would normally edit any other bit of footage sandor once you've got a nice edited final version you can render that again into d-backs so once it's rendered all you need to do is upload it to youtube and all you need to do to tell YouTube but it's 3d fully to make it magically treated as 3d is to put a particular tag and the tag section in YouTube and that tag is why t3d colon enable equals L are so and then your footage will be treated as 3d footage on YouTube man this actually works of that it's cool
