hello everyone today we're going to be learning how to make these little placemats just from paper glue and scissors so let's leave this on side and let's first talk about what you will need there anything blue sticks you're going to need pair of scissors we need a ruler and you will need papers of various colors now I'm not going to cut the strips in front of you because I've already cut them and let me tell you something cutting paper is very very difficult so the point of the ruler is that you would take just example this pink piece of paper and you would mark off every inch up to eight inches or even more depending on the size you wish to make your place mat or rug as some people would call it and then you would cut the strips at the one inch mark and then you would get a different color or the same color if you want but different colors will make it easier and then you do the same thing and what you will end up with you'll end up with strips like these now if you look at my strips you'll see that one set of strips is a little bit longer than the air strips and just let you know it it makes it easier to make the placemat if one of these is longer these will are going to be the horizontal ones and these are going to be the vertical ones and you can make these strips and any size that you want because depending on the sides as you make your paper or placemat or row whatever you want called will be that much longer so let's first get started let's leave all the extra stuff on the side you're just going to need your glue stick and the strips of paper if you have the movies on the side can you take these ones and for these orange ones that I have these now this is a horizontal one now I'm only going to need one right now we're going to be using mostly these other short ones look at the lipstick and I'm going to glue right here in this corner just a little bit enough for one square the strip to go on yeah if you look closely when I put this strip on I'll have a little bit of it hanging over on the edge now the reason that I do that is because if there's a little bit hanging over then you can cut all that at the end and have a nice end so after I do that this needs to be done in a technique technique known as weaving so we're not going to put this right here we're going to flip this over and we're going to place this right here now it's going to hit the glue sticks glue a little bit of a square there and then place my strip on it now if the strips are not straight and properly cut that can cause an issue and if they're put too closely then when we go to put the other strips that will be different difficult so I have a little test that I do here I pick up the single strip I can move it back and forth without this strip rubbing against this strip because you'll hear a sound that paper makes if it rushes against each other rub it against each other if it doesn't make that sound that's how you know you have a good strip and you're just going to continue doing this the whole way around I'm going to glue a little bit there place the strip right there and because I'm using regular school glue it takes a little while to dry so tonight so I can move the strip around and make sure it's placed right now I'll just take this move back and forth it's good I don't hear any paper step so I know I place this flash strip properly and flip it over do the exact same thing glue it take another one of the short strips and place it on and try to keep the overlapping even as possible now see I did this and I can feel that it's hitting against this new one a little bit so I just move the new one a little bit more out if you have a little bit too much space in between the strips that's okay all that means is that I didn't actually cut the paper properly and now if you're doing this in a class of students students if it turns out your teacher gives you strips and you did not cut them I would advise you to blame your teacher for not cutting them properly that's okay your teacher can take it just don't be mean it's not good to be mean to your teacher he or she takes out the time to come and teach you be honest but be respectful at the same time now because it seems like it's going to take me some time I'm just going to let you know when we're done we will decorate this because decorating makes life better and no one likes a boring rug or placemat now coming up on my last strip of my short ones second there's that so I'm going to call the front now you're going to start taking the other longer ones and now we're going to weave them through this may be difficult if your glue is not completely dry but it's okay if you're patient with it now you see how we have a pattern of white orange white orange white orange white and orange on the second one we want the pattern to be oppositely we want an orange white orange white orange white orange and white so we're just going to weave it through me we're going to move one and see there we've already started there but on top one and underneath one now we want to be careful that we don't move the strips too much because the glue is not completely dry but if you just be slow and patient we'll be good to go and then you want to make sure that this strip is as close to the top as possible to leave as a little room as gap as possible now we're going to now these end parts we need to glue them we don't have to glue everything in the middle but the end parts we do have to glue so I'm just going to lift up this orange tab put a little bit of little there and then I'm going to cover that end right there and if you want this to overlap a little bit also that's okay too we can cut that at the end also okay we're going to flip it over now here's the other end that's also hanging so we're just going to take a little bit of glue and we're going to set it down now it doesn't matter what side you start on so just make it easy and start on the side that you just happen to be on now see this is oranges on top so next one it's orange need to be on the bottom there we go and we just keep on going all the way a just I can get to go there we go up MC moves around a lot okay don't stress out about don't forget don't freak out sorry that's a joke you guys don't get you guys are too young okay now lift up the tab and glue it a little bit then flip it over and good now make sure that you don't leave space between each of these rows now because we're using of course we're using regular school glue it's pretty easy to move them around back and forth so make sure you keep moving up the lines yeah we are using straight strips of paper but if you wish you can cut these strips of paper with the funky so there's the one with the lines and the scars and the jagged edges the cool scissors now you should do that if you want after you have made a few ADIZ because matching those up is not easy at all very difficult to match up strip so I just flap flip down and if you have stickers you can put stickers on here stickers are cool you know why stickers are cool because stickers are easy designs if you're not as artistic as some people in the world are you get stickers then just pop stickers everywhere whether they're Batman stickers or Star Wars stickers or you know Avatar The Last Airbender stickers whatever see this last line I forgot to move it up properly so I start seeing a gap so I can just start to kind of inch it up a little bit don't try to force it too much because then the paper starts a little up there okay next trick goes under the bug there we go take this put it right there now this does have other uses because of some people watching this video will be like hey this is starting to look like a chessboard or a checkerboard you would be very correct and if you want you can always make these out of different materials we're just using paper but you can make this out of you know cardstock which for the ones that you don't know is just paper that's a little bit thicker is a little bit more expensive but you know it hangs out more you know if you get really creative you can make this out of wood you know you get basil wood which is just really light wood very flexible you cut it and you move it around then you know you could paint it and you can do some cool stuff with it now this looks like it's going to be the last strip now this trip is going to be a little difficult because you have to glue all the pieces down properly now I'm going to start with this one I'm just going to put a little bit of glue there stick it down little bit of glue stick it down little bit of glue stick it down little bit of glue stick it there but bit over do the same thing little bit of glue stick it down little bit little stick it down a little bit of glue stick it down little bit of glue stick it down now there you go now you're going to be like hey right on that's my name right on there are so many extra edges so then you know I say you know if you were listening you would remember that I said we're going to cut the extra pieces up so you scissors now you could wait for it to dry or you could just get started like I'm going to get started so you know it's cool now because the glue can still be wet you want to cut very slowly because glue makes cutting very difficult because it's not easy to cut on top of loop I would advise that you as some of you may wait I can see this part right here it didn't cut properly man look like it but it ain't cut properly try turning it around you can sometimes try to turn the seat there cut properly just turn the paper upside down now make sure these extra pieces of paper you recycle don't throw it away don't be that person okay Barrett is a very important part of our world you're cycling paper helps save trees from being cut down it's good for the environment it's good for mother nature mother nature is happy then humans are happy so we get our oxygen from trees we cut down all the trees we're not going to have any more oxygen anymore make our life difficult for those of you that think we can just go to a different planet I'm gonna let you know don't start by children and that's not me being me against children it's just that if you study science and you know how long it takes to get to different places in the universe and different planets you'll know that currently with technology in 2017 we don't have the option to actually go to a different planet now if you were counting my strips I would just let you know how this is I had one two one two three four five six seven eight short strips one two three four five six seven and I had eight strips here now I just happen to have one extra so that's okay either recycle it or you can save it for another project now the rest of this video is just going to be me with my box of colors and stuff and you can have different glitter pens or whatever crazy stuffs you guys that are you know cool things you guys want to use I know they got some scanned pens in the world now i'ma just start making designs for the rest of this and that's all this video is going to be hope you guys like the video put different designs by different places up and that's about I even messed up on that shape right there this is known as a six pointed star you can see I'm not doing a very good job I just made a star that had four points I'll square up I just made a square there I don't know what's going on now I'm gonna try something else ah let's see I got this green i'll make some hearts you know this green looks like it's black that's okay up messed up there didn't hold down the paper now it's very easy to draw stuff in here so one thing you should be careful of is when you're trying to drop across squares at the same time sometimes the paper can get caught if you don't do a proper job of gluing it down and even if you do a proper job of gluing it down it can still get caught see like it's starting to get caught but I think I did too good of a job so I can't demonstrate it getting caught that alone try their side okay let's see what cuz their pink piece is greatest color in the world here's pink wrap this thing doesn't work that's trash I can't actually recycled outsiders there's purple see how purple which I'm just drawing stuff just to see how 'days works are pretty good you can do some crazy ideas with this whatever you like now what I've noticed at this point is if you use something that has a really skinny point like these Sharpie points it tends to get caught easier but if you use something that's a little bit fatter it slides over a little bit easier but that's just with mine on yours it could be different who knows what will happen and you can laminate these if you wish to hold them longer if you don't wish then you don't have to play innate them I'm not going to stop you but you could also get crazy scissors and cut along the edges but you should probably wait for the glue to completely dry before you do attempt something like that and this is a placemat type run thingy just made out of papers have a good day don't be mean to your teachers
