Please explain how to

okay we're now going to talk about finished gel and why that's very name what were actually going to try and do here is once we've applied this is finished the but the the repair as we were doing on the bearing where we've got we've got areas we filled we got to rub those down get them nice and flat and even because finish gel has no has no filler quality to it it's very thin it's not going to fill up any bigger any big voids or big areas also what we do is finish gel is in this area here very concentration you've got scratches on the boat they've got depth and when you run your finger over them you can feel them so they're not going to be able to be rubbed out by sun paper in fact she did try to what you would actually do is actually leave actual proper little v ridges hollows in in the boat so we're gonna have to slightly fill them and this is where we go through the finish gel the big secret to finishing using finishing gel and finishing it is not to actually try and just do the really small little area of the actual scratch you've got to do a fringe either side of it and rub it down when you apply the finish gel coat over it's get goes on on a band either side of the scratch when you come to rub it down at the end the reason we do that is you you're going over unaffected undamaged gel if you rub through all that comes through is good gel underneath and the eye does not pick up the boundary we're going to come into here we'd some coarse sandpaper a claim as you see we're not just restricting ourselves to the actual immediate scratch we're doing the area around it we're going to Kuantan quite a reasonable sized area here if we don't key up the surface like this the gel we're going to add will not add it it will literally peel off if we didn't if we didn't actually key this up and we use onion 8100 great to start with don't scrub the area down with it with a with a fox like not so quite as of course 80 grit leaves very very very destroying the scratches on the part of the boat so we're gonna rub down 180 grit so that there isn't quite so quite such a such a scratch they deep scratched area we're gonna we're going to gel onto straightaway but you can see now meetly how big a how big a fringe we've done here finish gel is as we've already mentioned is these polyester gel coat resin with the pigment the right color pigment already mixed in the right proportions so we've got the right the right color the major reason why most boats nowadays are producing a very light gray and these aren't white they're actually a very light gray is that you actually get very little UV light deterioration on them actually when you think back to some of the very early lasers that were done in some quite strident colors yellows Browns oranges greens they actually twenty years thirty years down the line they've had so much color fade in even if we had the right color the right color gel we're not we're not going to match it if you actually have a very color boat you can do tinting tinting is very hard work to actually to actually do so as we find regularly when we're trying to match it owed both is it's very very very difficult to do so again something I really don't recommend that you try yourself it's quite fluid it's a quite a thin it's quite thin NIC solution so I said it's not gonna film very much that's why we constantly talk about filler gels and finish gels the finish gel is outside it's quite sort small scratches will not fill it's got no substance to it they what keeps doing is he's on the very very boundary is there will be a ridge left okay and that can be quite hard work to rub down so we're actually just dabbing around the fringe of it just to try and remove that that Ridge which would go off quite when it goes hard will be quite a problem little hard Ridge we've got to get rid of as the stuff as the gel goes off it will go off with the brush lines that really what will remain so so what we will have to do later on when this has gone off completely is we would take some some probably 240 discs to grit sandpaper just rub that down work the edge to start with to get rid of that that any Ridge that's actually there go then to 320 400 and then goes 600 grit by the end of the 600 grit you should not be able to see any Ridge around around it there should not be when you run your hand over it of any sort of lump or slight raise on it and you should not be able to see any brush lines if you can still see the brush lines your gonna go keep going with a 400 and 600 grit wet and dry to remove it once you get the stage where you can't see it then we go into the really fine sun papers to actually get rid of the scratch lines and then we will pull as we will show you later on hope you found this video useful and give you some useful tips we will be at the our way Suzuki Dinky show axe at Alexandra Palace in 2015 very easy to find we're in the Great Hall underneath the organ we will be doing live live
