Please explain how to wash a down coat / puffer jacket | learn how to wash a down coat from patric richardson

hi I'm Patrick than laundry evangelist welcome to my laundry room fortunately it's finally about in warm enough in Minnesota that we can put away the ski where we had a long runner but it was fabulous and it's fabulous when you have great ski wear and you could be outside in it but in order to put this away we're gonna wash it first this is a Down coat and it's in a polyester coating when you have a polyester finish on a garment what you're going to notice is you're going to have to give a quick scrub to the front where you tend to put your hands on it and to the collar and the cuffs what I'm going to use for that is I'm just gonna use vinegar and water you know how much I love vinegar and water I use it for everything but what it's gonna do here is it's going to break up the oil on the surface of the coat and I'm just going to give it a little scrub so I'm going to spray on just a little bit of vinegar and water and then I'm gonna take the horsehair brush and I'm just gonna scrub it in okay I'm gonna do that to the collar and the cuffs I'm gonna do it right here where your chin that's up against the jacket and I'm gonna do it right here where you tend to get a little Sun Tan Lotion on the cuff if you can see right there I'm gonna simply scrub the cuffs okay now we've pre treated this jacket we're just going to throw in the washing machine super simple I'm gonna kind of just give it a blog and put it in I'm gonna throw a tablespoon of laundry flakes on top and the next time you see the jacket it's gonna be ready to go in the dryer so after we spot treated the down jacket we've put it through the washer now we're gonna put it in the dryer but we're gonna put it on the air fluff cycle the reason we're going to use the air fluff cycle is the down is totally comfortable in hot air the polyester coating of the jacket is not so we don't want the jacket to get too hot in the dryer so the trick you put it in the dryer like so but then pro trick to get it nice and fluffy you use a tennis ball take a couple of tennis balls they can be dead it's totally fine throw a couple of tennis balls in the dryer with the down and it will beat the loft right back into the jacket it'll be ready to go and next fall when you pull it out you will be ready for the season what a great sound that is the sound of clean thank you so much for watching I am Patrick the laundry evangelist and I really hope you have a great day
