Hi, I'm Paul Barnes from Paul's Fishing Kites,
and I'm here to show you how to snell a fish hook. It's really important when you snell a fish
hook, to snell it so that the line comes out the front of the hook. This is so that as the fish
takes the hook and then pulls on it, the hook will roll and catch the fish in the corner of
the mouth. No matter how much it shakes its head, the fish will not be able to escape. If you have
the trace coming out of the back of the hook, then you'll find that you lose a lot of good
fish that you would otherwise catch. We're using a piece of fishing line about a meter long, and
we're using a number six tuna circle hook. It's really important that the fishing line is not
too sloppy in the eye of the hook, otherwise this knot will not work. The ideal width of the
eye on the fish hook is that the line should just be able to fit through twice. Just hold the hook
with the line through the eye starting from the front and coming out the back, pinch the hook end
the trace wrap the line round six or seven times pinch it. Get the other end of the line, pass
it back through from the top of the hook, give it a pull, that's it the hook is perfectly
snelled. It's really important that the knot is nipped up tightly, and if it is, the knot set in
place and it will never come undone. One of the good things about this knot, is because it's
a twist it doesn't actually cut into itself, so retains 100% of the breaking strain of the line
