good evening my name is David and I'm going to tell you in the next few moments how you can turn a common pallet into a productive planter now the pallet that I have here today is three feet wide and four feet in length it has one by four slats with two inches in between pallets are very commonly obtained at log and garden centers or hardware stores such as ace hardware or Lowe's or perhaps if you have obtained large items they have come on a pallet so pallets are very easy to obtain it's a very simple process to convert a pallet first what you want to do is make sure all of the nails on the pallet run it back are security just hammer them into place and then you want to take sandpaper smooth it out particularly the section between having done that on the front in the back now you were ready to enclose the pallet now the pallet has one by fours on the front and on the back generally a pallet on the backside as fewer one by fours this one has four of them with about an 8 inch gap in between so we need to close up the gap and in doing so what you want to obtain is premium landscape fabric you'll notice on the backside of this unit we have two layers of premium landscape fabric and what I've done as i have stapled this fabric all the way from the top side all the way down the back staple tight in between the boards and all the way down to the far end of the unit now to keep the landscape fabric in place I've also attached chicken wire and I've done that using poultry staples which are larger staples so you just basically nail these into place the palette is now a planter ready to plant it can either be planted in a vertical fashion let's say to lean up against a wall or something that sort you can plant flowers in it they're very decorative if your interest is in growing vegetables such as lettuce or spinach you can do that in a vertical fashion of course you want the the vegetables to set before you stand them up probably but would be more common for use in a horizontal fashion laying the item down in which case what you would do and we'll just go ahead and lay this down if you would build the planter with garden soil and then you would plant the seeds in between and make sure you water on a regular basis and you will be amazed at the amount of vegetation that can be grown in one of these pallets now just in terms of materials very inexpensive premium landscape fabric this is the 30 by 50 roll obtained it Lowe's for less than $10 the sandpaper block a hammer a staple gun and the poultry nails with these few items and a little bit of hard work you can turn the common palate into an uncommon planter thank you so much
