Please explain how to paint and restore an old wood picket fence. part 1

hello YouTube today we're going to discuss how to paint or restore an old wood picket fence now I did a video like this earlier but I didn't talk in it and many of the people who view the video complained that they didn't like reading the annotations I'm gonna add it to the video and they want to hear me talk so what I'm using is this deck and concrete restore product to restore my fence rest' oleum here makes a stain specifically for fences but you know what I actually know about the stage went to this product and start it and I'm about a third of the way through however I am fairly happy with the product and so I've decided to continue using it for my fence basically because it is very thick it is essentially armor it's very protective it fills cracks I found this is actually turned out to be a great way to restore my old wood fence and hope it lasts a couple of years if you know something I don't that this is a bad idea please comment below until then I think this has been a great idea so here's were rat on my fence and you may have seen in the previous video I had started painting this side with the the rust-oleum restore product which was cheaper than the Olympus which is one of the reasons I bought it get right up here on the fence with this design is nice and shining and you can see it's left a textured finish a lot like composite wood it's very strong it's not cracking it's not peeling and I started painting this about two months ago weather has a very weather hasn't cooperated which is why it's been taking me so long also I don't want to break my budget all at once that we buy just a little bit at a time that orange there's my neighbor's side of the fence I'm doing white around the frame side here I'd been using a paintbrush to take care of the posts and the framing and the the short parts here just made a using a roller impractical when I got to my flat side the fans that started using a roller and as you can see still nicely textured I was using a flat roller for a smooth surface like flat roller for super smooth surface isn't it great get right over the nails building cracks I mean it's a tough product and it's meant for decks and it's meant for metaphor what decks is meant for concrete surfaces but I've been very happy seeing this go on the fence if we got kind of a back view of this product you can see there's a little bleed through we can see still the grain through the fence there's some color issues here and there but it does recommend two coats and I'm only doing one coat filling all the cracks but it does a pretty good job some of these pickets were in worse condition than others here's a here's a picket that still looks like it's a you know you almost kind of see the old worn grey fence through it but it's been nicely refreshed in this product I'm hoping will last the recommended you know 10 years that restoring them says it should last why not right and of course there's the unfinished part of the fence this'll look like your fence if you're watching this video it's old it's weather-worn it's being destroyed by your neighbors vines but you know go to this video for product review you went for it for how to actually take you to your fence so first thing you should do is go around this fence and get rid of all debris that's on the fence anything that's currently in your way that's going to make it difficult for you to paint that means get rid of the neighbor's vines pulling them off you know fortunately vine here is getting underneath the picket so at some point I'm gonna pull this hole pick it off then really just tear apart their barn in there make sure you clean the fence I used a Joanne's deck wash that was fairly cheap attaches to your hose you spray it I did that you know a month ago or so but you want to get the bird poop off of it you want to get dirt off of it right now I'm going over it with the broom just because I did give it a good washing and now just making sure any and regular dirt or dust that got on it is being removed there's some more my neighbors Minds coming through there's a hook I missed pull that out so once you've cleaned the fence or even before you clean the fence you may want to consider giving the fence a light sanding and this will remove some of the the weather-worn wood particles they're still kind of sticking what we'll do is I'll go ahead and break up the broom and let you see how much dandruff essentially will come off of this fence and why it's recommended that you maybe just give it a light light sanding if you have the energy in time but I'm just your regular Joe I don't have my energy in time so in the next part of this video we'll get to actual work on the fence instead of just showing it off
