Please explain how to install a skylight video

here's an instructional video on how to install a velux technolon skylight we have a mock up here at the Great Canadian yards for those who don't know me my name is Gary Buzzle I'm the third service supervisor Creek leading and they have intended to get the satellite out of the box and up onto the roof first thing you want to do remove the V lock sticker from the inside grab my phone and pull gently so it doesn't leave a mark always ensure that your dangerous stickers at the very top of the skylight on the opening place it down into place visual centering so it's I'm appealing sagiv will come for that opening 100% and have it straight down entrance where the drywall after you do that and even orange tape around the side and skylight this is a sort of distilled pull up all this flashing that's around the side if not it will be in the way when you're adding the membrane that comes with you get very simple is pop forward comes up you'll see yellow stickers on the front side of this rubber gasket in rubber gasket comes into play later in to install those guys so now grab it on the corner hold it rubber bladder up and over on the flashing the skylights kidding after your unpack the flashing kit for the sky length you should have your back pan inside that back pan on the inner lip call the frost guard do not throw that away let's call them the same people do also have your base flashing or the front flashing then all your step flashing which is shorter than a regular flashing is actually designed for this type of skylight you also have a membrane it says right in here Velux adhesive underlayment required for warranty that's regarding that you cannot use a blue skin or an aqua barrier tape if you're doing a fresh install they want you to use their product just the cellophane wrap holding it together it's pretty simple to remove worry too much about cutting through your membrane confer your loans in order to install this properly around the length exceeding I mean extending possible 4 inches 4 inches cut that the same all four sides I'll do this side see some few little better same things 4 inches 4 inches we're going to do this while your felt pretty simple let me get it up on the inside this gasket is prepared is possibly can so under the corner tucking it up and then we put my knee here go to the porn applying your plastic you get this peel back so press down under the server it's nice and tight allow it to fall down upon itself use your finger secure it down don't worry about that for now as you comb a prawn follow in behind the plastic that's your peeling dragging your finger to ensure that it's sitting nice and tight up against that curve once it's so across the front in order to do the wrap on the corner it's the same as you would if you're doing flashing on a house 45 degree from the bottom of your corner upward angle down make sure it gets underneath this rubber gasket I've seen it where you guys swear it has been down then onto the curb with the membrane and it's incorrect the same on the side I'm sure that your membrane is going up the curb behind that rubber gasket once again about four inches get to your corner knee down get this plastic to start start to peel it once you get it couple inches Posterous corner press down once you start pulling membrane just there Chum around your finger I'm sure that this is nice it up all the way down tight to your curb bring your finger give it one of those right holy across pushing it in all the way down it's just nice and flat and here down good once again from the corner this is 45 degrees of course tear that down on itself seal this up and around behind that gasket once again make sure you push down in this corner to ensure that it is really sealed once again another corner twice that's 45 up continue the process on the other side and then also view your back same procedure 45 cut and fold it down and when it comes to actually doing the shingling in order to get your proper droppage to have your base flashing installed and then start with your step flashing please remember this is a mock-up roof typically wouldn't be this close to the edge of you bring in your shingle cut it to fit keep it square take your key line and you already have existing sure that all of your proper nail pattern the six nail pattern below the car line a bucket sharing that Mikey lines do not match up have a hatchet between already gotten the pre-cut make sure everything is going to be hitting the bottom shingles try and keep the key line full shingle the center of the skylight it does help try and keep it away from yet I go a couple inches back so that way you're not nailing through that inch in one quarter flashing that is already on the skylight Center the tab just to hold it into place doesn't need to get six names on these ones once again this mock-up not pretty model the shingling aspect now you have your front face flush should be the one with the lower and this lip right here talking both right rubber gasket this is where that comes into play you want to fold it up insure that it's going to be pinched in between this bladder and this bladder nice and tight holding it back down ensuring that this gasket is over top of this frost lips nice and tight once again get it down into place now the proper nail pattern with this the same as you would angle right below that thar line the next jingle is going to be sitting there I push in with my thumb just to ensure that that's nice and tight this will all pull together when you put on the exterior flashing when it comes through your wall step straight underneath this ladder keeping it flush you can hyper extend this a little so it's it a little tighter pushing it in tight things off normally would ensuring that you have about half of the step as an overlap because I believe three and a half inches install your next piece of step push it in tight one hatched slinked from where your existing nail is one nail all that is required first step never nail into the actual curb itself you want to nail into the roof decking where your six new stagger would be step now if you want an easy one it's basically from the top of your next shingle one thumb width from the top of that shingle put your nail I'll give you that clearance come to the top step flash when you put it in play such where you're going to have an overhang but I do they look from the top come on it will read them over my shoulder right from the top back your curb just mark it with something so that way you have a clear marking on to this just like you would for any corner route 45-degree taste to that corner take that tip off so you do not cut yourself ensure that this here a nice wrap find where your corner is going to match do you then don't just rely on that Bend it's kind of sloppy give it a nice good tight Bend - it was back in place so it's sitting proper once again one now tighten the corner - now this nail here in this nail here will be covered apply the back pen when it gets into place we'll get there and on our next step now the reason why I told you guys not to throw this out before is sometimes during your install the rest of the skylight this gets thin or bent or compressed easier did you put it in ensures you still have the proper spacing for this to fit let's take a fit perfectly take your pan it should be foam here for a vapor barrier slide it up and on it literally sits in place before you get to that point lift up your corner a little tab it's over top just like so on the next step in this process is nailing down the backpack I stay on this side of that frost return that's why it's there this one here I definitely go above where that line is Center the flashing two nails per side all that is needed no other additional nails are required unless skylight then you take your hammer fits frost return that's sitting up like so complete course around the skylight with that four inch overlap stab exactly let's left over on the roll to complete this next step put it down across the back pad for one inch and on each side rough estimate this is something new that Velux is added in that is not not made it into the books quite yet I go just a little bit down on the actual pan itself pull come on there we go feel it like you would any other membrane it is workable both +24 today Domon place just a sandwich in between no buildup of water froth anything along those lines talking name is cleaning plastic got stuck a little make sure that this is nice flat tight continue on with the install like you would here to come down before I install a shingle put what I call it dummy jingle just another one of your shingles just over covering exactly where that membrane is down just the point where the background starts to curve up you know this into place just so it extends past the flashing once again for any water and may penetrate place then you just continue on with your regular jingling and that is how you install the Velux gallon tank for completion once it's all shingled in you have that counter flashing that you're removed originally in order to get to the rubber gasket and secure down the skylight roof slides right in behind there on the corner see that okay then nice and easy let's rate up the same on this side that should just go right up tab into this metal like so obviously ensuring that it fits within the skylight pan in the background that you just installed and be a little time-consuming that's fine these actually come right apart if you need them to there we go nice and tight then down the tabs on the side it's ad these things is pulsing and oak there's a little pressure gasket for this to go in slide right back in please pull it out put it in and share it slides together sits right in place really crucial important things that you're not just come on to the site did not just fold down this tab and bang it tight I'm sure that'll work eventually it may fail this is the point where you just take small inch and a quarter roofing now I'm sharing that that's your gel you look in on this curbside you know penetration through that curb is that will ruin everything that we have just done to answer any kind of questions about the actual structural integrity of these skylights they are designed to withstand a lot of damage you tell the homeowner absolutely no problem soon as it hits down them something like that this is the worst that's going to happen the other exterior is gonna shatter here one in place that should answer all safety concerns for both these kinds of stuff thanks
