hello today I'd like to show you how to do some simple fused applique and today we're just going to use a machine straight stitch to go around the edge now I've shown you in an earlier video how to prepare for the applique using the paperback fusible web we have a look at that in the video number oh one six quilting tips and techniques oh one six and actually in in the video oh one seven we have a look at using blanket stitch to go around the edge but today we're just going to use some straight stitch so I've already done my fusing I traced my design and I by this on it's already on the background so I'm going to take it to the sewing machine now and so you show you how to do how I do that so on my sewing machine I've just got a fairly neutral I've got actually a dark probably charcoal thread and I'm only using the one color and some people prefer to color match all their threats and I've got an open toed foot on my sewing machine which will help me see exactly where I'm going with the applique it's not essential to have one of those but it certainly does help so I'm just going to start my epic air and I'm just using a straight stitch regular straight stitch on the sewing machine nothing difficult about setting up for this here I go it's going to follow the curve around so I'm sewing very close to the edge but on the applique itself and then when I get if you've got a needle down the position that's always very helpful when you're applique I want to go around the leaves while I'm here just sometimes you've got us gotta go one or two stitches at a time before you lift that little presser foot to turn so that you can stay with the shape of the applique it's just a little slow but this is a great way to do some overall fairly fast applique it's definitely raw edge Fok but because it's fused down it's not going to go anywhere and you'll find that it's actually amazingly durable even if you wash your some things the fusing may just lift a little bit at the edges and that may go a little bit fluffy but it won't really change the effort a great if you're doing something a little bit more naive and if you're wondering why I put strips down the side of my background for the applicators because it was just a little bit narrow and I thought it would be a bit easier to manage this way so you can see I'm just following the edge all the way around I don't stop and start if I don't have to and I just go right on to the next shape I'm just going to go right on to that little circle on there now keep going around at least number of joins and your thread and things on top of that circle and I'm just going to go straight back onto the bigger circle so you can see it's not difficult it's a lot of fun you can be very creative with this sort of applique I'm just going to do a little backstitch here just to back up to where my standing so I'm just going to come and this step and the knife pick onto the sim and down to the last little bit and we're nearly done so that really hasn't taken very long heaps of fun just another way of doing it okay so there you can see that the stitching is visible because I've used a darker thread you may choose to use a matching thread as I said but for me I like to just use the one thread and can keep going all the way around and I'm happy to see that thread there I know it's there I'm not bothered by it being a little bit visible so that's simple fused applique using a machine straight stitch thank you
