ready hi viewers and welcome to yet another episode of jumpstart right here at Grinnell's driving school on Mona Road no today we have something very very essential for you in store steering 101 now as many of you who think you can drive you surely cannot drive without being able to steer properly so Jonas today as we speak with mr. Grinnell himself about staring 101 so far is we we have done some demonstration already what do we do know is show you how to steer the vehicle but one of the important thing is steering input and how we all the steering wheel we have a 10:00 to 2:00 position and a quarter to 3 since the advent of the airbag in the steering wheel we have moved away from 10:00 to 2:00 because our hands getting this in this if the bag should deploy our hands will get in the way at 10:00 to 2:00 so we stare quadrant Street so we have a full area for the airbag to be deployed all right we're gonna be using what is called a shuffle steering technique as we drive yeah there are other technique like hand over hand we don't basically use that while we're driving normally and we have Parman we don't use that when the vehicle is moving we only use it when the vehicle is stationary shuffle steering technique is you bring your hand if you're gonna make a left turn to 12 o'clock on the steering wheel bring down your hand and once you get here if you need to move some more left you bring the right hand to meet it if you need to go back up use the right hand to bring the steering wheel up and therefore you always have a smooth input all right so I'm going to drive in and show you exactly oh this is done all right so we select drive and now we moving off we try to move slowly at first therefore we get on vehicle well in position we're gonna make a left turn so we bring our hand to 12 o'clock and we meet it down and Multan we come back up with the steering wheel so in that way we always have smooth input and if you notice our hands will never cross on the steering wheel all right so that's a technique we'll be using as we drive our vehicle the shuffle steering technique alright so we just drive around a little bit and once we are straight ahead we're back at Nana's quarter to three alright so we move around like that so as you can see smooth input all the time of the steering wheel I'm going to be entering this lane right here so we certainly don't want to hit any of the cones so we bring a vehicle we smooth input and as we drive we also aim to stop the vehicle smoothly so we don't want any jerking around when we stop the vehicle so that's we want to do it all the time Patrese know that I've demonstrated the proper way of moving the vehicle or to move of the vehicle start the vehicle adjust your mirrors and suchlike is know your time to drive the vehicle all right so come in the driver seat definitely this is your turn what we don't drive without the safety belts okay Sharlee obvious you'll see me I've done the steering demonstration we're gonna be at quarter to three okay all right which pushing quite nicely we are the only thing you could actually put your thumb a little bit on the steering wheel to ensure stability that helped you to Steve a little bit better okay all right I'm gonna be endeavouring to use the shuffle steering technique when I demonstrated what if you don't get it right the first step no more boat you like won't practice yeah double practice so could you move forward from a Prince Charlie and sure that John break his down articulate slow down here the fumes a sharp left turn bring your hand to twelve to twelve o'clock record go on slow down unlock someone either you can see our driving space like an obstacle course it really put you to the test yes good and sure that you you can manage when you're getting rude right all right gonna go towards the gate and we're gonna make another sharp left turn okay no problem I hope you're not gonna be a fast travel hey George driver yes for sure so we're doing the shuffle again that's right good gettin it straighten up all right slow down here because we want to enter this lens we're gonna move a little bit more to the right and then teach you that we can make it without touching any of these points some more left so the cross your hands just no yeah but five learning process all right good start to straighten them go very good we didn't hit any : okay so you seem like a very fast learner Patrice just put a little bit in step about here for me right here so my view is a quick recap of our lessons today brought to us by Grinnell's driving school now there are typically four staring methods one hand on the wheel this one is not generally recommended as it can cause problems when turning to palming a favorite of many but not necessarily recommended when the vehicle is moving as once again your hand can slip from the steering wheel and cause a driving accident three shuffle this is where the hand is placed across at a quarter to three with the thumbs firmly pressed on top of the steering wheel this is one of the most popular driving or steering methods and lastly hand over hand where the hand is placed on top of the other hand while it moves the steering wheel so there you have it for sharing methods hand on the wheel Tommy the shuffle and the hand over hand thank you once again for joining us here at test drive
