Please explain how to make tool holders for slat walls (ep36)

hey guys welcome back I'm Nick a couple weeks back I made this cabinet to house all my cordless tools this week I wanted to make the custom tool holders to actually go on the slat wall inside stick around and I'll show you how I made it I started by making the tool holders from plywood that was left over from building the cabinet with a hole saw in my drill press I could drill a hole in one of the pieces of wood to make essentially a two pronged fork to hold my impacts and drills then I could mark out some lines to connect the hole to the end of the board then it was off to the bandsaw to cut them out my one inch wide belt sander made quick work of smoothing out the freshly cut edges any tool that had a base plate to it I found it easier to use little strips of 3/4 inch plywood and some quarter inch MDF depending on your make or brand of tool you're going to have to adjust these to fit whatever tool you have this is just an overall guide of how to make them the main reason I wanted to make this video was to show how I made the aluminum clips that actually inserted into the slat wall itself I got some 1/2 inch wide aluminum strapping from my hardware store then I just started making some bends and a vise to give me kind of a Z shaped clip I could then use some duckbill pliers to give me my second Bend then just with some wire cutters I could actually cut it to length the aluminum is fairly soft this illustration shows the shape that I was going for then it was just a matter of repeating the process here is where I found the irony of me using my drill press table with my drill press vise to use a hand drill to drill the holes it quickly dawned on me that I could slide the vise four inches over and use the drill press itself which I ended up doing my ended up making approximately 24 clips which would amount to 12 tool holders I also countersunk the holes so that the screw would fit flush on the bracket then it was back over to my handy belt sander to ease over some of the corners remove any sharp spots and take off any burrs here you can see the original design and what I'd come up with they pretty much are spot-on one point for the big guy after I sanded all the edges rounded over some of the corners I then installed some angle blocks into some of the different pieces the one with the deeper slot cut out of it I had 2 angle brackets one on either side the ones with the shorter slot I just had one angle bracket in the center those were just glued and screwed into place here you can see the one that I made for my jig saw my plan is to make one that's a little bit larger for my circular saw as well I then could install the aluminum clips with one screw on the back on all the remaining tool holders as you can see with the slat wall configuration your possibilities are pretty much limitless however you want to design up whatever you're trying to hold I recommend doing it in cardboard first that way if you screw it up heck it's just cardboard and then just some aluminum strapping from the hardware store it makes it a pretty cheap and easy project because the plywood was just leftover from well when I made the cabinet so and if you're interested in building the cabinet go over to Nick very calm and I have a set of plans available over there as well well I see you guys next time take care
