hello everyone welcome to urban scheme Bangalore and in today's episode we will be talking to you about the glad your life or the gladiolus so the glad you lie you might be wondering why is it called glad your lie and gladiolus it is just a case of singular and plural so this is a native of Africa and some parts of Asia as well as some parts of the Mediterranean and it is a tropical and a warmth loving plant it loves the summer heat so if you are trying to grow this in frost affected areas or in areas where you get a lot of snow then you will have to dig out the calm and kind of set it aside maybe inside the house or in a greenhouse where it does not get really cold so for those people who stay in tropical climates and areas like in India it is very easy to grow this plant you can grow this with the help of a corn so the calm almost looks like an onion a flattened onion it has really hard scales and the best time to sow this calm would be somewhere in the month or in the beginning of the spring that is somewhere between March to May would be ideal for sowing this calm and another thing is this is a seasonal plant it just gives out one flower each season but it keeps repeating every year another thing that you have to note is that even if you cut the flowers the same plant will not regenerate flowers again one plant one flubber is the rule so this is a fertilizer hungry plant so if you are using artificial fertilizers then make sure that the middle portion that is the NPK in that the middle portion P element should be higher if you're using compost like I do and if you're you are into organic gardening then compost is perfectly fine this loves well-drained soil so make sure that you have amended your clay soil with a lot of sand also add a lot of compost to enrich the potting medium another the thing is that if you are looking at a successive blooming from this plant then what you can do is for example if you're sowing the calm in the first week of March then so another calm the next week and keep sewing it consecutively so that you get successive blooms during the summer months this plant exemplifies romance and love it is also called the bouquet flower in India because it is used in a lot of flower arrangements and in bookies so I will be probably covering on how to sow the calm in another episode however if you saw it a little deeper it is easier for you to stake this plant because this as you can see this is a little floppy so staking of this plant is very necessary otherwise it will be blown over by the wind so at least a 9 inch deep hole would be enough for sewing the scum so just give it what it needs do not do too many things for its upkeep just let it be and it will do really well about seeds I'm not very sure I've never really seen a seed coming out of this however you can definitely propagate it with the help of comms and its division thank you for watching urban scape and law and if you like this video then do not forget to subscribe like and share
