Please explain how to re-line a chimney flue | this old house

first thing we got to do is is get these two flues at different heights here's your water heater flue that's going to sit right up there like that fireplace flu will be next to it we'll extend that just a little bit okay and attach the stainless steel single flue cap right all right but down inside of here we're gonna put a liner inside of that okay that's what this is wow corrugated four inch diameter stainless steel chimney liner chimney cap squirrel screen okay little flashing ring that stops the water from running down the pipe it'll drip off the outside here how was it fastened to the top of the floor this piece here will silicone right down to that flue tile and glue it right there okay below all this ceramic wool insulation a blanket wrapped around with foil okay and then this armor mesh to protect it while we drop it in so we don't rip it how do we get it in the actual flow of the chimney well i'm going to be on the top you're going to be on the bottom we need to get some rope though let's go get that out of the trailer okay hey terry okay mark okay i've cemented on the new cap for the fireplace flu and the extension for the water heater flu now i'm going to lower down a weight which has a rope attached to it for this metal liner i need you to tell me when you see it okay okay i have it all right terry i'm going to lower the liner down i just want you to pull gently on the rope so that uh you're not pulling too hard and you just sort of be following along okay so hey terry you got that actually i could use your help mark all right let's give it one more good tug it's not almost there there you go i think you got it perfect hey by the way what is a job like this cost the average homeowner annotate 316 flexible stainless done right by a professional you're looking at a good 1200 wow that's a lot of money but um i guess in order to have it done safely and properly it's a small price to pay and best of all i get my fireplace back you got that right great hey we got a couple more things to do here we're gonna we're gonna trim this off right and reseal that in at the wall okay and then we're gonna take the connector pipe back tie that right into here beautiful seal the bonnet up okay
