hello this is chelsea with little bird alterations and the lemon nest today i'm going to show you how to sew on a suspender button you're going to have six suspender buttons that you're going to place on either side of your front two belt loops and straddling your back belt loop the materials and tools that you will need for this project marking pen measuring tool some high mark thread your suspender buttons scissors pants and your suspenders the first thing that i'm going to do is i'm going to work on the back suspender button i've already sewed one on as you can see i'm gonna sew the second one on you're going to mark where you would like the placement of your suspender button i'd like mine to be about two inches apart so putting the one inch line on the middle of my back seam i'm going to mark this point and also it's a two-mark two-inch point next thing i'm going to do is thread a needle you're going to make sure that the thread is doubled and you're going to tie a knot at the end of the trick you only need to tie one knot here because the highmark thread is quite strong it doesn't need to be doubled snip off your tail leaving a little bit of the tail intact next step that we're going to do is to begin going so with the tip of your needle you're going to catch just a little bit of the fabric on the inside of the waistband pull the thread through i'm going to start on the left side here going through the left bottom button pull that through and then go to the top left hole pull that through and then i'm going to come under and catch just a little bit of the fabric again on the inside of the waistband you don't want any of the thread to show on the outside of the waistband and pull that through i'm going to do that again the bottom left hole top left hole grab a little bit of the waistband and pull that through okay i'm going to do the same thing on the right side i'm going to go up through the bottom right hole the top right hole and through catch a little bit of the waistband pull through go through the bottom right hole top right hole catch a little bit of the wasting pull it through and i'm going to secure the button on and to do this we're going to make a little bit of a shank so you're going to wrap the thread around once twice and then you're going to hold on with your left hand the edge of the thread and wrap the bottom around once so the top of the needle is at the 12 o'clock point and coming under you're going to pull the needle through once under and over twice and then pull this tight to secure it we've just made a knot for our thread and now it will stay on the button last thing that you're going to do is pull the needle through the waistband to hide your tail and then snip your tail that way this loose end is inside the material and it's less likely that your button will fall off so now you're going to put your suspenders on put the pretty side out just going to pull the buttons through there you work
