hey guys I still room here from the midnight garage today I am going to convert my home city to a manual it currently has a three speed automatic automatic gearbox and it's terrible and I'm going to refer to a 5-speed manual one that process is pretty much the same for any Honda so I am going to show you guys step by step videos how to do this and then in the end you can do it for yourself well in short what do you need you need chair box obviously you need the clutch and the flywheel the clutch cable shift linkages starter engine drive shafts and battle assembly sometimes you also need the rear bracket I've got the bracket with me and have some civics need the rear bracket and engine mounts well but some don't just in case always get some extra stuff so if you're not sure if you need the bracket and the engine mount buy it anyways you also need some wire because you need to lengthen the wires for the backup lights and you need to ground the wire there to make the car start because otherwise it has to think it's neutral otherwise we won't start also if you have a car with an ECU which this one does not and it's better to have the manual ECU because otherwise they're automatic issues going to thing like Oh what the hell's going on and probably throws in your code and the car will work pretty well the very first thing before you take everything apart is to loosen the central nut and I've already done that but I'm going to show you how I usually do that I use this and you can connect it and then I use something to make it longer which is usually the rub from the jet and then you have some extra space and you can care it real easy why not a friend could help me because we're going to remove the torque converter and it's easier to do so with two people especially now that the engine is still in because well you can also do it without the torque reporter but then you get a mess everywhere and you it's best to keep this or converter on the gearbox with an automatical well how we're going to do it these are the bolts for the torque converter and we're just going to release them and Miguel is simultaneously holding the brakes that but everything does not move and then I can easily remove it and then you will release brake put it in neutral turn the gearbox a bit and then we can continue and then torque comparator will be loose very easily and now with that out of the way it's time to loosen the bolts of the gearbox itself well we almost have everything loose this is the final bolt that's keeping everything together and then the gearbox will come up and the gearbox is loose now the trick I have always is I'll first take off the suspension bit on that side and the drive shaft there I'll take it off like that and then you can pull the gearbox out like that and then you can twist the gear the auto drive shaft out here and then you have the gearbox loose and it's going to leave a big mess it's always at several places so I can't be bothered by cleaning it up I'll just wait until everything's leaked out then I clean the floor and then I'll continue and now you can clearly see the size difference between an automatic gearbox and the manual gearbox and now it's time to put the clutch and the flywheel back I'm already in the flywheel back always torque these bolts down to spec that's are very important you don't want to get these loose in the future since I won't be getting a new clutch but I'm going to use the old clutch I don't have anything to censor it and I've learned a good tip from a friend of mine who happens to be here right now working on his alternator and you simply need something like this and a piece of tape and you wrap the tape around here until it fits in here and then you can Center it with this there we are getting new stuff is always better but you know this works swell and now it's time to put the gear box back on together with a friend and yeah it's better to do this with two persons on one well the gear box almost is centering it so that this hole goes well but this is going very well I remember taking hours to put it on properly but this one just went on and one try it corrects accept and now it's time to put the shift linkage back on this is done with the pin lovingly cold in the Honda community a pin it's out fortunately and I just have to hit it back on and then I have to use this clamp and clamp that on and that's it well I've been very lucky as the shift linkage this straight up fit and I didn't have to cut any holes now I've never had that before with a home but usually I had to cut some holes there but there were some threats already there so I could just straight up bolt them in when I usually do that just drill some holes from below and then put some nuts there on the top and then fix them that's it just make sure it's a corrosion proof everything now it's time to put the drive shafts back on Oh with that all done time to put the engine mounts all back well with all the engine mounts and everything back in position and everything on the bottom side done swell I am going to put wheels back on and lower the car and then work on the top again now I have some new wheels which I'm not going to pull on right now I just wanted to check resolution I think it's going to look pretty cool but I'm going to put the old wheels back on for now because I want to polish the lip and make the center's gold so now it's time to cut up the gearbox I was just working on speed sensor which has been attached again and I've put the ground back home always check the ground people forget that sometimes I haven't put the starter back so there is a bolt and you can use that to fill it up some people use the speed sensor hole as well always check how much leaders go in it and then fill it up it's really easy I usually yoke the funnel and I attach a garden hose to it and then put the garden hose in the hole and then I can fill it up easily well starter motors back on as you can see this one's usually do and there's a plug here and that one's for the power and then these two wires still need to be hooked up those are for the backup lights well moving on to the interior of the car I've already said the shift linkage just fit it straight away I have made the interior with the shift boot because some people decide laying around I just use the old bolt holes the old bracket and I've made it like this and I want to put it over it it looks like this and I'm pretty happy with that result well as for electronics because yeah there will be electronic issues when doing this fortunately I have broken that and my first thought was this but now I've noticed that I can show you guys much better how this actually works cuz you see this is broken this one was supposed to be the same with this one su-kam basic TC is here there are a couple of wires here there are a couple of wires here's nothing and here are a couple of wires well basically what happens is this is the P position the power position here are two wires that are supposed to be connected when the gearshifter is in that position there are two wires in the second position that's the R and then there's nothing for the neutral and there are two wires for the OD well for OD there is a for overdrive there's a switch going on or at least a light going on in the cluster so these two wires the light then in the reverse these two wires they need to be hooked up through the two wires I've shown you on the gearbox and then the backup lights work again and these two wires the big black and white ones need to be hooked up together so the car thinks it's in park and when the car thinks it's in park you can start the car that's it really easy well as for one of the final things I need to swap out the pedal assembly I've already removed the automatic assembly with just a brake pedal and I have grabbed the regular assembly that is with the clutch pedal obviously now this one is separately as a separate piece just for the throttle but a prologue pedal but they are exactly the same for me some pedal assemblies have all three then you have to swap everything out now I still need to swap everything out because I have to throttle cables one going to the carburetor and one going to the gearbox for probably for the kick down setup but I just have to swap out this for now now out work is actually real simple there's a whole bolt here this one's connected to the fuse box another four here and a pin going through the mouth brake cylinder here and that's about it you just have to wiggle because you don't have much room if you've not never done this before I recommend taking the dashboard out yeah it's quite a lot of work to do so but at least you know you have a bit more room and you've bit more visibility on how to do so and it will ease things up a lot for you well the pedal assembly is on piece of job don't recommend it but yet you have to do this when doing this job and I was done and now really really happy if you happen to have a large cylinder hi crow clutch another cable clutch well too bad because that's a lot bit more difficult than cable clutches but I'll tell you guys anyways there's usually three holes and you can put the clutch in through the firewall if you're unlucky you have to drill the holes herself and that in that case I recommend taking the dash out to do everything properly then you have to make some hoses going to the gearbox itself there are fortunately a lot of ready-made hoses for you out there that you can just install and you're done right away you can also make them yourself that's a lot cheaper but you have to know what you're doing and that's basically the difference between a hydro clutch and a cable clutch well I got my pedals I'm very happy with that I got my nice new gear shifter with my new shift boot and this was actually the one one I had for my second gen Honda Civic which you have seen in this video here and I bought that but that wasn't automatic as well so I couldn't use that so now I used it before my Honda City because it's going to be partially blue and you know what shall we try to start the thing now that everything's done that's a good sign one two three whoo nice first drive will it work yeah backwards perfect well that's all their students basically I'm going to take our question now I am going to adjust the clutch cable to my knees yeah now the car can convert it to a manual so it's took me about the weekend I think it easy to probably do it in a day or an off day if you have like purposes you need in the garage but then probably you wouldn't be watching this be the day to days that's what you have to count on anyways this was studio a help psychic people educated I am going to make a few more of these how-to videos so if you like that much front button and then I will see you guys in the next video bye
