today I'm going to show you how to replace a pinion seal as you can see it's leaking pretty bad I waited too long so let's go ahead and change it today so you're going to take the two strap bolts off on this side in the two strap bolts off on this side it's nothing too hard they should be held in blue loctite if you can had them out before 5/16 I'll leave all the tools in the description so I marked the yoke and the drive shaft so we can put them back the same way they come off some say their balance from the factory so you might as well go ahead mark I spoke with a screwdriver that's good and take the bolts off they too tight I kind of broke them loose already I've had a driveshaft off before to put a clutch in this and just pry it out and it should pop right out sometimes they're stubborn but you can get it out with a couple more prize you just want to put it off to the side or you can tie it up if you want take the caps up so they don't fall and you want to mark the nut in the yoke and you want to count your threads because you want it it's got a crush bearing in there and you don't want to over tighten it or loosen it too much or it could ruin your rear end so make sure you mark them too and count the threads I had to put a come-alongs and a big pipe wrench to hold the yoke why I broke it loose because it was tight I mean really really tight I'm just trying to do this you know budget in mind if you don't have a yoke holder and a you know impact you could do it this way that's why I wanted to do the hard way to show you guys that you can do this in your backyard or your driveway so you just need to come along and big old pipe wrench to hold it because I tried to use the weight of the vehicle it would not work getting take the nut off of there we want to take this contraption off of there you want to pound on a little bit not too much don't force it too hard I hit both sides and just finally pop loose should pull right off and you want to take a screwdriver to you know smaller screwdriver to start bending the seal up once you get it bent up where you can get under it you want to get a decent sized chisel and start chiseling around it and after you start breaking the steel start moving around and you should be able to get it out so here's the chisel that I use nothing too much I kind of sharpen it with a grinder and I use the screwdriver to start it open to open the seal like a can opener so and there's the seal now you can see I don't have to get clear around it there's the bearing and nerves and the nice grease now we took a socket and kind of went around the the new seal instead just pounding the real suit around the seals are just a hammer you can after you're done if you get seated we just kind of pounded in the middle and kind of round up the big socket and then we tapped around it so it's sealed pretty good long as it's flush if you've been just a little bit it should be okay long as you get it flush with the housing then we should be able to start putting this bad boy back together it's pretty much flush so I've got the nut back on pretty pretty much the same threads you want to put your drive shaft back on put your straps back on tighten them back down to torque specs you can use blue loctite which I do put a little dab you don't need to go crazy just a little dab will do and there it is clean a little bit of grease off and it's back together
