so today I am installing a chandelier using a swag light kit and you can get this at your home improvement store I was finding a lot of them in gold ER and bronze that were old new stock I actually got this at Menards they had them at Home Depot too but I was looking for the silver and clear cord so I had the time to shop around a little bit because a lot of times they are white or brown as you can see here the walls are cream-colored so I want it to blend in and this house is a really big I'll show you it's a big room that used to be divided by two walls and this is the dining area and then this is the living area so a lot of people have used it as a computer room because there wasn't a lamp up above and then just used the kitchen so what I'm doing is providing light for the room without actually having to hardwire the chandelier so this is an actual chandelier that can be hardwired you convert it with the swag light kit so the light kit comes with the chain it comes with the hooks for your ceiling to hang your chain from the ceiling here and to drape it over to the side our electrical plugs here running on a light switch so you can put an inline on/off switch on this if you like now because this has a plug on one end to plug into the wall and then just your bare wires on the other end you have to feed this end through the chain and you want to start where you think that you might want to cut your chain off and the chain that comes with it is a rectangle chain and I may change this but her purpose is now on the beginning chain up here is an oval chain it's a little more decorative and you can get this stuff by the foot at the home-improvement store also so I have the two connected and this is my wire for the chandelier and it's just bare wires also I can't stress enough electrical tape alone is a fire hazard you have to use wire nuts the wire nuts usually come in colors of red and you know black or orange so temporarily I'm going to use the black electrical tape but you can get colored electrical tape also so after I do some shopping I'm going to come back and take the black electrical tape off because I don't want to see the splice so you're just going to wire this in for me my cords way off over here and then down the wall and I know I'm removing some of the change you don't want to hang from the hooks the wire you want to use the chain and that's going to support that so I'm just weeding this through all willy-nilly style this is super easy it literally takes minutes we have a wood floor just above this so I didn't even have to use the anchors but you want a toggle style anchor if you're not going into wood the end of your drywall but this was a real good answer for this house and this is one of our rental houses we're always in between tenants trying to do improvements and every time we do with an improvement it's usually because we want to raise the rent and find better tenants so keep your tenants happy keep improving your house I don't know if you can see the curtains by me but we also replace all the drapery with mini blinds and some sheer curtains and it lets a lot more light in here now with this club to my knowledge there is not a positive and negative if you plug it in and find it does work that you could redo it so here I've got my two cords and I'm going to splice them together you might want to see this a little more up close so these are threaded and they will twist your wires together I always like to start them and then they go in there real nice and these are the wire nuts that came with the light fixture so you know they're going to be the right size you don't want to over tighten it you can see here when I turn it it bounces back my sound effects person is Miss Bethany today let so as you can see the trouble of having these like this is you're easily leaving these exposed for little people to climb ladders stand on the table and undo now if your kids are on the table they shouldn't be up there but you're going to want to take those so I've got my electric 12 tape here all handy and like I said this is for temporary I'm going to get some colored tape and what the tape is going to do is seal this so it is not going to keep on spinning and be generous use plenty of tape now I don't have my second hook in the ceiling yet for my chain but I wanted to get my lamp hung where I wanted and actually the kit only comes with it comes with three hooks actually it came with four it comes with the screw with the pointed end so that's the wood screw and your hook is going to attach to that or if you're going into hollow space you can use the toggle so I'm going to probably be using the same one so if you do pre-drill pre-drill start small and then go bigger if you need to use the anchor so this is all set to go into the ceiling so you're just going to wanna pull that through a little bit to cover up your slack and then I'll show you how this goes so what you'll do this is all installed this is the main part of the video that I want you to see moving this out of the way and having it draped to the wall you can now hi miss Muffy so just like that you've taken a hardwired lamp and made it into a swag style lamp you can do this with old stuff you can do it with new stuff it was real simple the lamp itself was a $60 lamp with three light bulbs we'd like to use three because it puts out a lot of light and the actual swag kit was 15 dollars so that's how you install a swag lab kit to your chandelier thanks for watching everybody
