hello this Geo again and today we are going to be replacing this doorknob this is a typical bed and bath doorknob but for some reason locking mechanisms have broke so they don't really lock very well so we'll show you how to take this off and replace it we've already purchased a new bed and bath door doorknob so we'll show you how to do this so this is what came with our kit that we just opened up that doorknob the latching mechanism here's a little piece for your your door for latching mechanism if you need that a little plate for the frame and the screws that you need so we're probably not going to use all those since we're going to be replacing the existing one we could reuse some of them this is just for locking mechanism I'll probably just replace the handle portion and it comes with instructions how to do this and even comes with instructions of if you're dealing with a brand new door how to measure it out you could use this template to help cut out the openings or your handle but again since we're replacing an existing one we won't need to do that today so the first step is just to take the existing handle off and on one side you should see screws not on this side but on this side and so they're just two Phillips screws one here and one there so we'll go ahead and take those off right now there's the first one take off the second one as you take these off we see it starts loosen up we actually have to keep backside push a little bit and then they should just come right off like this and if you look inside you'll see how it's connected so and one of the things you want to look for is that this is a certain shape it's kind of has half half round and a full full middle tube and that will go in a certain way as you can see just like that it's just shaped like that half round and and and a rod you're going to be putting the new one in and then you have the two screw holes here that go on either side one there and one there that's how the knob will go in and then we could also take this piece off by unscrewing these and just pulling that out I think I'll do that just to show you so we took the screws off Phillips screws and it just slides right off and you could see how it was originally cut in there and it was just two screws holding into place and it looks exactly like the new one and in fact it is so I think I'll just replace this mechanism the new one with the old just to make sure that it'll be nice and functional so go ahead and come come back here now since the door closes this way sorry about that if I put it on this way it would just hit hard and wouldn't shut you want this to slide over this plate and shut properly so you make sure that it's in the right orientation and just replace the Phillips with screws I know I have to just dissemble this just take these two two screws out remembering that if the screw side is on the front side of the door so I've taken the two pieces a half and this is the back of the door and so that's where I want the locking portion to be and just as before you can see two screw holes and the center which is kind of a Halfmoon and a bar and it should just fit just exactly that way if you turn around won't fit so if it's if it's this way it won't fit so you want to make sure it's oriented right and I can get this in and want kind of want to wiggle it in and then on the backside you can see how it fits in there fits nicely and then you take the front and again this also has kind of a Halfmoon shape to it and so you want to orient that correctly as well so you kind of just stick it in there and wiggle it into place there you go I got it in there and then you want to kind of rotate this faceplate just so it's in alignment with the holes and then replace the screws you got it in so we're going to just screw it in you could probably just use your fingers initially and then go ahead and and then we'll do this side and then the other side so we finish in sawing two screws turn test fit test it and then we go ahead and lock it up and see indeed it's locked the side is also locked good so let's just try it on the backside each other lock it lock unlock it unlock and just to show you here's the spare slide plate when we could replace that if we wanted to but this slide plate is working just fine and just a couple of wood screws so we'll just keep this and keep this as spare part and so here you have it that's how you replace an indoor security door knob see you next time
