hello guys today we are having a taste test this is all plantain okay this is baby plantain leaves the really young small tender ones and I sauteed it with some yellow onion and butter and a couple wood sorrel okay so I come put the butter in the pan caramelize the onions then I added the wood sorrel cook that down and then I added the baby plantain leaves and just cooked it for about three minutes not much longer than that okay we're gonna see how that tastes and then we have two cups of plantain tea this is the really big old tough leaves and it's funny because the baby leaves are really soft like like a sheet or a blanket in there they're slightly kind of fuzzy in their root they're real soft okay these leaves were much bigger and they were they were harder like I can't say paper because they're thicker than paper but you know just definitely a harder texture not not soft at all these were right in the middle okay they're not babies but they're not they're really old tough ones okay some of them were some of them are pretty dry and tough but they're still medium sized it's just because of the weather here some of them were sitting in the Sun and didn't get as much water and such like that okay so baby plantains with sauteed onions yellow onions and wood sorrel old plantain leaves and medium right in the middle plantain leaves okay now these I got the leaf and I cut the stem off of it and then I kind of roughly chopped it like you would chop up vegetables for our first do and I just kind of roughly chopped it put it in the bottom of the cup and then I poured boiling water over it okay I'm gonna let it sit for ten minutes it's already been five and I did the same with this i roughly chopped the medium leaves put them in the bottom and then I poured boiling water over it so we're gonna let it steep for about ten minutes then I'm going to strain the Leafs out and see how it tastes and if it's too bitter I'm going to put a little honey in it and then we're gonna see how it tastes after that okay so here goes taste test number one this is baby plantain leaves sauteed yellow onions with just sauteed in butter and about a pinch of wood sorrel okay and we're gonna see how it tastes ready I'm gonna try just the leaf first oh that is delicious oh yeah what Stan let's get some with a little onion and the leaf let's see how that goes how that is amazing and the wood sorrel gives it like that lemony flavor too with the caramelized onions and the plantain gives it that kind of mushroom aftertaste this is really good and I mean I've got food in the cabinets I'm just doing this for fun and it is so good mmm I'm the health benefits from this it can it's anti-inflammatory so it's good for rheumatism any kind of like upper respiratory infections that your your mucous membranes are inflamed this would really help you get another bite here mmm not so much this so definitely look on the description or look on my page there's so many health benefits to this and it is just absolutely delicious okay so there's one way to cook fresh baby plantain and I hope you enjoy okay so it's time to taste the tea and this is the first one this is the old leaves and what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna take and scoop them out and put them on this plate right and you can eat these leaves just like they are or taken cook them up with the onions and butter and such you can rinse them off then boil them again you can eat them as a spinach or in any way you would cook a boiled leafy green you can eat these and they still have most of their medical properties okay so we just have just the water left behind okay and let's take a drink Oh strong mushroom it's like it's like a tea made straight out of mushrooms it literally tastes like I'm I'm biting into a store-bought portobello Wow I'm gonna try some honey but I don't know if it'll be good after you sweeten it or not but let me put some honey in it and let's see okay so I just have some local honey I always buy and local because it it's good for your seasonal allergies if you eat more local honey you're used to the pollen that's going to be in the air so your seasonal allergies will be a lot less and also it helps to support your community and the local farmers so I got my honey and I'm just gonna put a little bit in there I like a lot of honey I'm not gonna lie all right and then let's stir it up flavor and especially the natural stuff that you would get from wood sorrel but if you take too much wood you're you're likely to get kidney stones because it's very high in oxalic acid so I'm not gonna put it in this time I'm just gonna add the honey and see if it makes a difference all right let's test it now oh that's delicious actually you wouldn't think it would work because it has still got that mushroom flavor but it actually complements each other really well that is that's definitely something I would I drink this again okay so now let's move on all right so now let's move on to the medium leaf tea remember this is the old old Leafs the big leaves the tougher Leafs this is the the medium Leafs not quite babies not quite old not hard but not all soft either okay I use these soft baby Leafs in the in the plate of sauteed plantain and onion okay so we're gonna do the same exact thing I'm just going to skip it for you okay all we're gonna do is I'm going to take and take the Leafs and put them over on this plate just like I did before okay all right and I've strained the Leafs out okay and you can see that all I did to prepare it was I took the leaf and just loosely chopped it you know not too big not too small just loosely chopped it okay you can do really fine chopping like dicing it and just just make sure that you strain it instead of just using a fork to take it out if you don't like the little if you don't want to have to chew your tea you know I don't like floaters so I just did it this this is the old leaves they're a little bit bigger and just tougher and these are nice and soft okay we got my notes up here so I could tell you the benefits of this as well okay so this plantain tea is you can drink it and it will help relieve your chronic bronchitis it's used as an anti-inflammatory if you have a cold or the flu it can help relieve your cough it's also an expectorant which means all that nasty mucus will come out instead of irritating you it also can ease mucus membranes in your lung due to rest upper respiratory infections okay and if you don't want to drink it you can use it as a rinse on sunburns rashes and wounds it's its antiseptic antibacterial so it will help clean it as well as to promote new cell regrowth so it heals faster okay so let's take those taste test it and see what happens much stronger mushroom flavor okay so this one did taste like mushrooms but it was a really light flavor it was still more watery this one with the medium leaves has a much much stronger mushroom taste yeah much stronger okay now let's add some honey again it's just my same local honey okay and let's just put some in there mix it up let's give this one a taste it's still very much for me that the the honey really doesn't didn't do much at all I think that honey just it just brought that mushroom more still still if you like fresh might mushrooms then definitely this is the drink for you one more thing before we go okay this is also you can take and get a washcloth and soak it in there and place it on your forehead if you are having a headache and just like if you had a headache and he took some took some Tylenol you want to lay down and just relax so you instead of taking Tylenol you can soak a washcloth in this drape it over your forehead and just relax and it should have the same effect in easing the pain all right so there we go there is our wild plantain tea and I hope you enjoy umm one word of advice before I in this video I just saw it on the bottom of my notes there if you are a diabetic and you are insulin dependent do not take this drink please don't okay right plantain tea can lower your blood sugar okay so if if you have a problem already with low blood sugar or if you are insulin dependent avoid plantain tea
