hi I'm Heather mango from the design department at Mary Maxim today I'm going to show you the technique of our knitting to make the cowl shown behind me all you need is 30 minutes your two arms and 200 grams of any super bulky weight yarn I'll be using one ball of thrill-seeker twisted bias towel to begin if you're using a 200 gram ball of yarn like I am you'll need to wind your yarn off into two smaller balls because we'll be using two strands I recommend putting these in a basket next to your chair to keep them from rolling around pull out about half a yard and make a slipknot it doesn't matter which wrist you begin on because you will be working from both arms put your loop around your wrist and tighten it a little bit you don't want this too tight because you will be pulling this over your wrist now to cast on make a loop and put it on your wrist for the qaol we'll use ten stitches to begin knitting place your working yarn across the palm of your hand take your first loop pull it over your working yarn to create a new loop and put it on your opposite wrist place the yarn across your palm grab your next loop pull it over to make a new loop and place it on your opposite wrist we're going to continue to do this for all of our stitches you can pull your working yarn to tighten them up a bit if you need to once all your stitches are on your opposite wrist we're going to work back on to our original hand when you've got about two arms lengths worth of working here and left we're going to begin to cast off to cast off you'll start with a knit stitch then you'll knit a second stitch and just like in traditional knitting pull your first stitch over your second knit another pull the first over the second when you've got your last stitch on your wrist pull your tail through and pull to secure to finish your cowl you're going to fold together your cast off edge and your cast on edge you want your right side facing out if you were looking at traditional knitting this would be like your knit side on a stockinette stitch we're going to take the ends and begin to weave through both thicknesses of your cowl and I'll leave that in there for now and I'm going to take my other tail and work back the other way doing the same thing through both thicknesses alright now I'm going to take some sewing thread in a tapestry needle and sew down my ends I like to use a double thickness of thread you can trim your tails close to your stitching and repeat for your other tail and now your cowl is complete as you can see our knitting is quick easy and fun you can make this cowl in under 30 minutes thank you for joining us today and remember you can find this and many other great ideas at Mary Maxim com you
