Please explain how to remove paint off of a breyer, resin, or pewter metal model horse using purple power

hello everyone welcome to my dirty art slopsink and yes in case you're wondering this is actually clean I cleaned it before the video but the flash makes it look ten times worse than it is but anyway it doesn't matter what this sink looks like because it's my heart sink and it's away from everything and it doesn't get used for anything else but art so there it is anyway today I'm going to show you how to strip paint off of a resin model horse this should pretty much go to the same way for any sort of model horse resin or plastic or pewter I do have a blog post on the oven cleaner method I will do that another time for this video I want to show you the purple power method which is my new favorite method it seems to work really really well I hear you can get purple power at Walmart although I don't have a Walmart near me I found it on Amazon as an add-on item and it was like super cheap so I wanted to give it a try and I'm in love with it so I'll probably be ordering more in the future when I need it and let's get started so what you will need is your model horse needing to be stripped is a Nevada resin by Sarah rose I bought her as a body she's unfinished as you can see she also has a lot of scuffs and scratches and stuff so I mean technically I could just finish her up if I wanted to but I don't feel comfortable doing that I don't like faltering or adding on to other artists work I'd rather have my own artwork on here so anyway you're a body of choice you'll probably need like an old toothbrush some scrub brushes I don't burn in here but toothpicks are good too to get into crevices of like hair and stuff like that maybe even some q-tips do you think you could yeah oh you're a container of choice hopefully this works this is actually just um an old what do you call it like like a blister pack off of an amiibo figure that I just recently got so I saved this because it figure I can strip stuff in it we'll see how that goes hopefully it doesn't like melts or something you're a stripping agent of choice and I guess something to weigh down your model if it floats I was going to try and use this Cup if I needed it but anything will do libs and yeah so let's get started gloves are very very important because this stuff is actually quite caustic even though it doesn't have really any fumes or anything like you don't realize I read the back and yeah so you don't want to touch this stuff other than that what you do you take your pretty little pony plop it in there now you can dilute this I've been using it straight and it's been working fine so and this is actually probably a little weaker now because this is a stripped a few things and just pour it back in here so it's probably weakened a little bit as it is anyway you can delete it you can try it straight if you want to try a diluted first just to make sure then do that otherwise I've been doing it straight it hasn't been a problem and I've saved it so I don't have to waste stuff so this is a milk jug full of older stuff I've used already then what you're gonna do but you can see I can't fit the milk chart and do this I'm just gonna pour it on in there and cover your model down there alright oh good I don't the weight down so it's pretty simple I mean let that sit I'm gonna check on it at least every hour you don't want to let it sit too long because you don't want it to start eating into the plastic so every hour we're gonna come back and see where it's at and I will be back in an hour and show you okay we are back I have to admit it got a little distracted so it's been probably more like two hours two and a half hours since we put this little lady in here um and let's see where she's at alright looks like it's starting now you want to take your wheel scrub brush try not to use anything too rough because you don't wanna scratch the resin and just brush it away that just peels right off so anyway this is the point where you get your toothbrush your toothpicks and all that jazz and just start taking off the loose paint it looks like this is all it's gonna need all right so after all that scrubbing this is what we ended up with this should be fine I do not have to strip this any further you just want to make sure you want to get all that uneven paint and crud out as long as you have a pretty smooth surface here it's fine especially if it's just primer because you're just gonna be primering on top of that anyway and it just means it has a really good easy yeah adhesion so what I would do when I'm ready to work on this piece is actually just give it a light sanding all over make sure it's smooth still and then reprime and continue going so this is where she's pretty much at now just getting a few little more doodads out of her mean with a toothpick and the next thing we're gonna do is rinse her off all right actually the next thing I'm gonna do is pour this pour my purple power back into my reusable thingamabob here if you have a strainer it's probably best you strain it I don't have a strainer and I don't feel like trying to strain this again so whatever it'll just be a little weaker but whatevs so we're gonna pour this back in here to save it for next time and I'll stop before I get to all that pink Duncan will just throw that out okay so this is all ready to go I'm gonna have to wipe this off later a little bit throw this out all right so here what we're gonna do is give her a wash let's rinse off this stuff mostly just trying to get the purple power off so I can handle her without having to worry about gloves all right now cloves can get annoying going to take these off now since she's rinsed for the most part and what we're gonna do is use some lovely dish soap on her dish soap is really good because it gets off of grease I use free and clear I don't like to use anything with any sort of fragrances or perfumes or dyes because I don't know how it's gonna react with the the paint when it goes on so free and clear just show up of some sort and then we're just gonna do that and rinse it off and now I'm gonna do the same thing some dish soap but now I'm going to also add some baking soda the baking soda acts as a sort of exfoliator and sort of grabs on to any extra residue and helps get it off of crevices and out of crevices and things like that I'm trying to think of something else you can use a set of baking soda but I don't know a lot of people use Ajax for this reason but I don't like if I don't have to use chemical things I won't so this is basically an alternative to using Ajax's dish soap and baking soda so this should get a good get in there real good if you have a toothbrush can also you can scrub in there but this should be I'm gonna use my toothpick a q-tip but I mean if you have a toothbrush clean toothbrush I mind still full of the purple power and that kind of defeats the purpose so I'm just gonna use what I have on hand right here should be fine make sure you get into the crevices real good alright so next we rinse that off now we're gonna rinse this off as best as you can and now as an extra step just to make sure everything is off of that also purrs are doing whatever I take just the baking soda now with whatever water is on there and again work that into the crevices and everything with my fingers this time don't use a toothbrush or anything that would have anything on it because this is like the final and now I'm just getting off anything that may have accidentally been left from the soaps just an extra measure I like to do and then we give this a final rinse I do not like this faucet faucet if you have a force it with force that's great too because it'll push anything out of everything all right and there you go you probably wanna let her air dry or if you're not going to primer right away and just dry with a piece of paper towel or something if you're gonna still work on her but there you have it this is about probably the extent they'll be stripping or - I'm probably just gonna sand the rest and sand everything else smooth because I don't want to lose much more of the detail and if you do leave them in there too long the detail starts to kind of fade away so she looks pretty perfect she's just gonna have to get prepped you know some extra prepping on there so it's just extra work but I think it's worth it in the end to save a few bucks on a cool little resin so I hope you enjoyed this I hope this helps answer your questions about taking the paint off of model horses this will not remove original finish and on these methods to remove custom paint will not remove a religion I'll finish I believe this was painted with oils maybe acrylics - it will remove oils it'll remove acrylics you know I should get a little remove the primer eventually pastels sealers it'll remove all that but it will not remove an original finish that the only way you can do that is with acetone or bleach on the larger ones because the stablemates are actually a different type of plastic but you don't need to do that I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you're doing some sort of a deco that you need to use the plastic showing through it or something so you don't need to do that for original finish you would just prep and prime and go as they I have videos on this talking about this I'm not gonna go into that but this is how you would strip custom paint off a model if you need to and yeah so I hope that helps and thanks for watching like comment share subscribe that helps me tremendously and keep to keep making these videos for you guys so thanks again and thanks for watching I'll see you next time
