if you have to use excessive pressure when breaking you might want to check out your brake booster hi I'm Barbara Terry with Auto MD brake boosters are designed to help the driver with braking if it fails extra effort will be required in braking parts and tools needed to replace the brake booster you will need an e-rate booster and brake fluid you will also need the following tools torque wrench 3/8 inch drive ratchet a set of sockets a set of wrenches a flathead screwdriver and a mallet your own vehicle's components and parts may differ so always refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for details always think safety first I recommend using safety goggles gloves and close toed shoes whenever working on your vehicle the use of an aftermarket jack can work much quicker than a manufacturer's in the case of these videos we are using a new hydraulic lift it is very easy to confirm a defective brake booster with the inch and off step on the brake pedal several times to relieve the brake booster of vacuum then press the brake pedal down and start the engine normally the brake pedal will sink slightly if the brake pedal does not drop then the brake booster has failed so the first thing to do is locate the brake booster within the engine compartment you will need to remove the vacuum hose from the brake booster you will also need to remove the brake lines from the master cylinder and then remove the master cylinder from the brake booster next disconnect the brake pedal from the push rod typically this connection is made under the dash with a simple c-clip or pin loosen the nuts that hold the brake booster to the firewall usually on the interior of the firewall under the dash and have someone support the booster from inside the engine compartment then remove the old brake booster install the new brake booster mount the booster back on the firewall by tightening the bolts on the interior reconnect the push rod to the pedal reconnect the master cylinder back to the brake booster and reconnect the brake lines finally bleed the brakes at the master cylinder before attempting to drive on the road make sure you have a solid feeling brake pedal if it feels spongy bleed the entire system on behalf of Auto MD I'm Barbara Terry with how to replace your brake booster
