Please explain how to : magnetize a screwdriver

hey everybody in today's how to video i am going to show you how to magnetize a standard screwdriver this is a very quick and simple process it may take 10 or 15 seconds per screwdriver and once you magnetize them the magnetic hold lasts for years really you can use the magnetic screwdriver not just as a screwdriver but as a magnetic pickup tool if you're working in an engine and you drop a nut or bolt a washer you can use the screwdriver to get in wherever it is and fish it out so just sit back and i'll show you how quick and simple of a process this is to do okay so what i do when i want to magnetize a screwdriver and just to show you that i have not previously magnetized this this uh screwdriver will not even pick up the smallest little screw and i mean this little thing is tiny you take your screwdriver and you take a magnetic parts tray on the back of this will be a round magnet that has a rubber coating over it to prevent it from scratching your paint if you're working on your vehicle but you'll take the screwdriver and then you will rake it across and with each each time you rake it you're going to turn it about a quarter of a turn and what this does is it will align all of the atoms in the metal one direction and that creates the magnetic uh force so you break this across i don't know probably do it 10 times something like that and just you're turning it a quarter turn each time and then now you have a magnetic screwdriver so you can pick up you know pick up screws if you're working on something the screw drops down you can you can pick it right up but now we have a magnetic screwdriver and it only took maybe 10 seconds you can do this with any of your screwdrivers and i would definitely suggest using the magnetic parts tray because when you're done using it to magnetize the screwdriver it's still a useful tool in your garage and also it has that coating on the back of the magnet a lot of people will use old magnets from the backs of car stereo speakers but those are hard metal and if you have a nice finish on one of your screwdrivers like this husky pro it has a chrome finish the solid metal rubbing against that will scratch the surface completely up and it'll make it look horrible if you just have a standard little craftsman screwdriver just solid metal it really probably wouldn't make a big difference but i just preferred the parts tray method so that's the way that i magnetize a screwdriver there may be other methods that work better for you but for me for the safety factor and the ease of it because i already own the other tools this is the way that i prefer if you like my video please click like and if you like my channel please click subscribe thanks for watching
