Please explain how to make a delicious london broil rub and marinade by leanne ely of saving dinner

all right we have a great big old piece of london broil right here and i'll tell you what this stuff is great it's nice and lean and it does need one thing though and that is a lot of marination to get a lot of flavor and we're going to put it on the grill but not today right now we're going to get it ready to go for getting the flavor in and the way that i do this is i take a fork and i'm going to just poke holes all over here then i'm going to get the rub on it and we're really we really are going to rub it into it and then we do a marinade i'm going to show you how this is all done it's so easy so simple and i'm telling you once you've done steak this way you will not do it any other way so we start with the fork thing and you know you're just going to really poke it and get a little bit aggressive you know norman bates style no psycho music but you get the idea you just really give it to that piece of meat let it know who's boss knock it out of the park all right and now that we've gotten that all situated we've got a place for the stuff to go now i made this this is just a little uh rub here what i have in here is cayenne pepper i've got basil thyme i've got oregano in here garlic powder onion powder some red chili pepper because i like that and a little salt and pepper and it's just mmm fragrant it's got lots of flavor and lots of of uh seasoning in there and you'll notice i'm just putting it right over the top to start and now i'm going to get aggressive and attack it and you want to get it right into the meat like that see we're actually rubbing it we're giving it a little massage because mr london broil is going to taste delicious tomorrow okay so you see how it just really went in there now we're going to turn it over and do it again get your fork out and just watch make sure you get the meat not a finger because that that hurt and keep going fork it like you mean business don't wuss out you need to make sure that you're going to get your rub in there and that's what's going to give your steak a big flavor all right oh there we go i think we did enough damage and once again we'll just sprinkle that and again we're rubbing it in we want it to go down into those little holes that we just spent so much time making there you go now if you'll notice what we have here is a nice rubbed evenly on both sides what i've done here in this big old ziploc bag is i have four cloves of garlic i use the little frozen ice cube kind of garlics just put them in here and kind of smash them up on the bottom you could do this with a jar of garlic you could do this with fresh garlic whatever you want tons of garlic in there i mean the more the merrier as far as i'm concerned and then we're going to use a little apple cider vinegar apple cider vinegar is fantastic when you have an acid like this or you can use a citrus you could use lemon lime that kind of a thing but when you're using some kind of an acid in your marinade you are going to penetrate that meat and you're also going to break down the fibers a little bit in it and it's going to be nice and tender so what we're going to do is add oh probably about what is that about i'd say about let's make it a quarter of a cup that's about a quarter of a cup right there a vinegar and you can if you want to measure but i find that to be a little bit boring and then we're going to put some olive oil in here just let it go let it go let it roll let it roll let it roll i mean this is almost like making a vinaigrette but it's different okay now we're going to use our hands and this is kind of fun you know what your kids would love doing this you just want to mush it around and kind of emulsify it a little bit the garlic and the vinegar and and everything all going together smells good and now we take our beef and we put it in here and then we take the rest of this lovely rub and we just throw it in and for good measure you can just throw a little more oil in there you can put a little bit more vinegar in there but i'm just going to leave it as it is let me just say this this is a very forgiving recipe there's a lot of different things that you can do you don't have to worry about getting it right or getting it wrong you can always come back and correct it now what i'm doing is just rubbing the marinade part into the rubbed part so now we have rub and marinade and that is going to take 24 hours to become something so delicious that everybody's going to ask you for your recipe it's easy it is that easy and that's how you do a london broil you could use a flank steak you could i've done this with fillets for heaven's sakes you can do anything that you want with it and your rubs you could use anything if you want to do something with a little bit of spice or kick you can put ancho chilies in there you can you could do cumin you could add more red peppers you could do whatever you want the world is your oyster whatever rub you want to use you can buy a rub that's already made you can put make your own and we've got them on our website so you can go ahead and get the rubs and marinades menu that we just put out a little while ago and enjoy that enjoy it that way but um this is incredible and once it's grilled and sliced thin your me your mouth's gonna be watering i promise you anyway enjoy
