Please explain how to use caulking guns in preparation for painting

today i got a few tips to show you with caulking guns this is the release lever back here so you can push it in push it in and then pull the lever all the way back and you can tip out your tube of caulking now this is a new tube of caulking and this is a fairly old caulking gun but what you have right here this is actually a cutter for the tube and you can snip it off to your desired length i like to cut it at like a 45 degree angle and then again i'm going to push the release lever and pull it back all the way so i'm able to slip the tube in on the front here you've got a handy little poker which on a new tube of caulking or whatever it is that you're using in the caulking van you can use to pierce a little bit of plastic there that'll allow the caulking to flow okay now when using the caulking gun you'll squeeze the trigger and that'll produce the caulk out of the tip of course but when you're ready to stop the flow you really got to press the release button and that's the the tricky part of using the caulking if you don't press the release button it'll continue to put pressure on the inside and push more caulking out of the tube even though you're wanting it not to so here goes a run here all the way through the edge you just kind of reach it down and you don't have to squeeze too too strongly it really just will uh come out now you can see how it's it's uh floating out and wanted to drip out at the end i got to push that end of the button to release the the tension they don't want the edge just use the finger and guide it in and any low areas we can use up the material that you grab with your finger to make a nice clean edge and it's best if you paint over caulking after you're finished pretty much you'll never have to redo it if you paint over it so that's what i'll be doing here so i'm going to continue along here and i push that release tab again to stop the caulking from flowing and again just use use the finger to press it in and smooth it out the excess that's on there we can use to fill the little nail holes on the new molding and a couple little cracks here so i'll go ahead and fill those in nice and simple again the trick is just getting a feel for when you need to push that release tab in and the caulking gun allows you to do a lot of area fairly quickly let's use what's on my finger here fill that in so and if one finger gets too much stuff on it you can pretty much use another finger and it's a good idea to keep your hands clean keeps you from getting it on your clothes getting on anything else so i just kind of rinse my hand as i go along to keep everything nice and clean here the sink top is getting replaced so it's not a big deal about keeping it clean here but i prefer to keep things like that that's just my preference you get stay in the habit of keeping things neat and clean uh makes it less likely that you get things dirty in the future and more practice to keeping clean all this other stuff wasn't me and other contractors not everybody works the same exact way so anyway that's how you can caulk in baseboards and that's a couple little tips on using the coffin gun one more little tip that might come in handy when you need to cap for your locking you're going to leave it you can just find an appropriately sized wire nut just twist it on and it makes a good temporary cap a larger size works a little bit better but this will be okay but it's a just a way to keep everything working like it should keep the caulking from drying out okay okay baseboards all caulked now all that's left is the paint and the doors and the trim it's all the hardware all kinds of fun paint baseboards are all ready for paint now all caulked in all the nail holes ready to go so you
