hey youtubers here we are again man another little project i figured go ahead and videotape this uh winter's coming i had a uh furnace that i replaced about a year or so back and this thing just kept giving me troubles as you can see i sealed it and sealed it and it was just an old abandoned flue pipe and didn't really know what to do with it uh you know and every time the wind would blow really hard it would just break that seal again it's supposed to have a collar that goes over top of this thing but whoever installed it to be to begin with didn't really uh do things properly as you can see my new furnace my uh flue pipe is over there that i installed and it's got a you know a collar down there on the bottom that catches the rain and this one doesn't so solution to the problem i guess you've seen it there one of these little spinny type deals that uh catch the wind when it comes by and uh you know gets the the heat out of the attic i only got uh one vent right there you can see on the opposite side there kind of a tp shaped roof style here on my house so anyway uh you know i just cut a a hole i put this guy here down and traced a hole over top of the existing hole that you know i took this thing out just kind of want to eliminate this leak so just kind of wanted to uh show what's going on here so you just lifted about halfway up the circle hard to do this holding the phone and just kind of overlapping things and i had it up in here and then while i hit this where's that oh here it is this nail here see so we're we're kind of taking you know nails out that are kind of holding us up to get this up in here you know you just kind of got to lift up on these the asphalt seals them down as the roof gets hot get this thing up in here first show you guys what's going on here we go hard to work with the phone so here we go you know that's just going to set right in there and then we'll nail that flashing back down and you know follow the instructions there was a little cardboard thing here to find the pitch of the roof you just kind of set this up on the peak and uh you know go from there just read the instructions that come with it so this goes up on the peak of the roof and just kind of eyeball straight edge across the top and that gives your pitch and uh you know there's just a certain way of setting that uh housing down on top of this so it kind of gives you the right angle and then you just spin that elbow and that'll make you uh perfectly level so pretty simple to do deal um you know anybody that's looking to do one of these to keep the heat out of the attic in the uh summer months you know it's probably not really a good uh winter month thing but it's still not too bad of a thing to do because it keeps the moisture out of your attic uh keeps you know mildew down and things like that and these things work great i've um been up in attics over the years with doing electrical work and stuff over the years and you know they pretty much work like an attic fan without the electrical cost of having to turn the fan on and off the wind just catches them and uh you know they just they spin like crazy i'm sure you've seen them out here on the market you know they just kind of do that deal there and wind catches them and you know as you can see that thing's just going and going and going so they they just pull that hot air right out of the attic it's doesn't take much of a a breeze to to get them going all right guys just figured i'd share this with you we'll talk to you on the next one
