hi welcome back to best drink recipes I'm Yoo Lian Mountjoy and we are going to make for you a Vesper martini using the astounding sugar house vodka now we're going to call this a reverse Vesper or a sugar house Vesper because your ordinary Vesper gets two ounces of gin 1 ounce vodka and half ounce lolei in the case of this exceptional spirit we're going to use two ounces of it one ounce of the gin and 1/2 ounce of the delay we're going to put that into our beaker we're going to spin it chill it and then we're going to put it into our cocktail glass and then we are going to express our lemon oil on it and then we are going to imbibe it so to begin let's go ahead and put two ounces of our sugar house into our beaker you do have to love that sound one two and you go thank you mr. sugar house and then let's put one ounce of our gin followed by half of our Lily now if you're not familiar with a lake it's just a French aperitif or it's a fortified wine it's rather lovely and it is kind of what makes this drink what it is there we go now let's go ahead and add our ice there we go now we're going to use one large piece of ice and if you don't have that that's fine this just um is a little more elegant and you can ease it in with your spoon like such if you've got different kind of ice that's fine the most important thing you want to pay attention to this is the stirring and you're not only chilling this this drink but you're also diluting it and that's probably the most important thing to pay attention to and let's begin stirring I'm gonna hold the base of this glass because I didn't want to counteract my chilling efforts by gripping with my warm hand you don't necessarily have to hold it either but it's feeling a little wobbly you just grab the base of it and I'm just kind of circling at the base of the spoon around the inside rim of beaker now an important way to determine that you're not over diluting this drink is to take a straw I haven't have this straw here like this and it's got a little you know spoon at the end you can use a regular straw whatever you have but essentially what you're doing is grabbing the end of it so you can taste where you are in space and time in relation to the chilling and dilution of your drink you should expect to go depending on the ice you have if you have little bits and granules it's gonna take you sooner because the ice will dilute more quickly if you have a large cube like this I'll take you just a little longer but you're going about 30 40 50 revolutions in about every 10 20 30 taste it's who you are and we are there alright we'll take our Hawthorne strainer place it into our beaker and let's pour away what a beautiful clear slightly honey like color this drink has and let's go ahead and express our oils I learned that little bit there from Jamie Oliver rolling it just kind of opens up the citrus helps you peel it back and also helps off warm and prepare these oils for their expression all over the top of this drink and it's easiest if you go too close you're gonna get too much of that bitter you go up here and you should be able to see the the oils just kind of fall and cascade down all over this drink and just evenly coat it like a morning dew and then I'm going to go around the rim down the stem and the base and why am i doing that because whoever's going to drink this will carry this drink with them while they're drinking it and well after it'll be all over everything and it just encourages that having a second one or just the enjoyable experience of it in the first place so there we are the sugarhouse Vesper beautiful in color and delightful in taste now if you'd like to see the review that we did for sugar house you can find that right here or if you like to see another cocktail that we did using the sugar house as our base you can find that right here and while you click one of those I will sit on this absolutely a delight highly recommended again if you'd like to see the review that we did for sugar house you can find that there or another cocktail right there or if you'd like to subscribe or comment we'd also love to hear from you well that about does it for me thank you for joining us here at best drink recipes Emeline now joy we look forward to seeing you at the next day
