Please explain how to make a vintage apron : making a vintage kitchen apron: add a hand-painted tie

Hi! I’m Candi Cane-Canncel on behalf of
expertvillage.com. In this clip I’m going to show us how to take your hand painted piece
of fabric and turn it into a tie for your apron. Now the first thing you want to do
is find the center of the your apron tie and put a pin there, because what we’re going
to be doing is stitching up one side, stitching up the other side and leaving the center open
so that once we turn our tie right side out then we’re going to attach it to the actual
apron. So you want to leave the center open, so just fold it in half with the right sides
together and just pin all the way along and when you start getting to the center just
measure where your apron is actually going hit and put two pins there so that you know
that’s as far you need to go with your stitching at this point. And once you have it all the
way pinned you’re going to take it to your machine and just stitch…and what I did is
went ahead and used about a quarter of an inch seam allowance, you don’t need that
big of a seam allowance for a project like this. And once you stitched it straight you
also want to close up the edges at this point, so you just take it to your machine and again
about a quarter inch and just close up the edges. So once you have everything stitched
up you’re going to want to turn it inside out and then we’re going to press it, but
before you do that cut out the excess seam and the edge and make sure that there isn’t
any big corners or anything, just trim it. So to turn this right side out what I’m
using is just a little turning tool it just has like a little hook with a lever on the
end and this just makes it so much easier, you stick it all the way through to the edge
of your fabric, latch the hook on and then just simply pull it through. And you can find
this tool at any craft store or sewing store, it just makes your life a lot easier.
