brought to you by 1a auto calm your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the Internet hi I'm Mike Greer I'm one of the owners of warning Auto I want to help you save time and money repairing and maintaining your vehicle I'm going to use my 20-plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from one auto calm the right parts installed correctly that's going to save you time and money thank you and enjoy the video in this video we're going to show you how to replace the outside door handle we do the driver's side front which is basically the same as the passenger side front as well on this 98 Corolla same as any 98 202 tools you'll need our phillips screwdriver a flat blade screwdriver a 10 millimeter socket with a ratchet and an extension and a flashlight will help you out - okay start by removing the front inside door handle there's a little Phillips screw right there to remove handle slides forward now in behind see there's a clip right there on a rod - screwdriver and then take the handle push it up and off the rod and off here write that up now there are two screws holding the armrest right there and then a little clip right here clip just use a Philips head kind of turn it finger down on earth pry out once it's out like that it's all set speed up as we do that and this is probably the most physically challenging part those screws counter and then in they're a little difficult to get out but as long as you have a good Phillips screwdriver you'll be all set little surprises that clip came flying out now the proper way to do it pull back your water shield okay now your exterior door handle look up inside see yellow clip there okay reach up on my finger pull that off and you can either pull that rot out or if you go in right through this hole the flat blade screwdriver put up in between twist pull that rot out and then there's another clip see that yellow clip over there that's the lock what you want to do with that is I don't know I gotta stick my whole hand in there let you basically just reach in put that clip my thumb right in like that whole hand in there okay now there's two bolts ten millimeter right there and then it's hard to see this one you can see a ten millimeter that's right there and you want to look just up and behind that so you want to get this one back up here and a little hurry up here is we just remove those two 10 millimeter bolts okay shadows off up to my door handle as I was doing is that lower clip is kind of getting in my way so your handle pulls out wrap okay here's my original handle you know from 1a auto you would need to switch over the lock mechanism just remove that 10 millimeter bolt bolt it into there you can see you aside from that everything about the new handle from 1a is the same it's going to go in fix your broken one obviously my old handle is in fine shape so I'm going to reinstall it okay this handle is a textured black one so you could obviously install it as is and it fix your problem if you have a broken handle we also do sell smooth black which if you wanted to match it to your vehicle basically what you would want to find is your paint code go to an automotive parts store that has a good paint department and they can help you find that code they can mix you up some paint in an air charge can and you can spray your handle to match but as I said my original handles in good shape so I'm going to reinstall it with the handle still loose you can look in and reach in with the other hand put that little back lock rod back into place and then clip the clip on probably easiest to do this way because you can put eyes on it clips into place a little bit throughout this first hole that's right here nice and easy it was bold and I'll get right in titanum firm but it-- okay last but not least take this rod pull this whole clip up the rod into place take your water shield put it back up in place okay speed through put them back together hang the door panel up make sure your lock button comes through the top okay and then once you get it hung up you can kind of look in behind and line up the clips kind of feel the pin and then the hole push it in make sure that you have your lock rod and your harness coming through then install the two Phillips screws that hold near the armrest base you and now you can reinstall the armrest just push it down lock it in place reconnect your power window switch slide the back end first then push the front down into place re install your door handle push it in push it back to lock it into place and then put the screw back in and then the trim panel that goes up top near the mirror and then the little clip in the back to hold it we hope this helps you out brought to you by ww1 AR comm your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the internet please feel free to call us toll-free 888 8 4 4 3 3 9 3 we're the company that's here for you on the internet and in person
