Please explain how to stencil and paint kaleidoscope kitties using acrylic paint

hello there thanks again for joining us i'm really glad you did and i love it that you guys are so loyal today i'll be creating this trio of cats in a kind of modern style the cats are stenciled on and it's a ton of fun to do while i'm doing this introduction type thingy if you're not there now then come over to montmartre tv you can find that at montmart.net where we have a ton of more lessons that are really fantastic we've also got our facebook instagram and our creative connection attached to that also and if you subscribe to our creative connection then we'll send you a fun family project each week so let's get into it well i can hardly wait and the first step is to get this background on and rather than use a paintbrush i'm going to use a montmartre 75 millimeter sponge roller i'm going to use montmartre silver series silver paint and some montmartre metallic paint in blue the support that i'll be using is a montmartre single thick canvas measuring 30 centimeters by 60 centimeters so let's get this silver on i'm using one of my favorite all-time art accessories here the easy clean wood palette i squeeze out some silver series silver acrylic and with the 75 millimeter sponge roller i evenly distribute it over the entire canvas i then remove the paint off the palette with a damp towel well our silver is dry and now we can create our skyline and add in our blue sky now because i want my line to look fairly crisp i'm going to use some masking tape and i'm going to put it about there now let's lay this blue on i now squeeze out my metallic blue acrylic and lay it over the top side up to the tape so let's get our cats onto the canvas and this is kind of where the project becomes an artwork now if you're not there now then jump onto our webpage at www.montmart.net then go to montmartv and select this lesson you'll notice there's a pdf attached print that out and you'll notice these three cats that i've drawn in different poses now to get these cats onto our canvas i'm going to cut them out and stencil them on with our sponge roller now to cut them out i'm going to use a montmartre hobby knife now this is a sharp pointy thing so i need a sharp pointy alert so if you're not yet an adult then you'll need to get one to help you with this stage so let's cut these caps out the thing to bear in mind when you do this is to always cut away from your person this way it is impossible to cut yourself oh oh and keep the offcuts because we'll need them later well our stencils have been created and we can apply them to our canvas so take your masking tape and tape your stencil down once the stencil is taped on i choose the lamp black in the silver series squeeze it onto my palette and again with the sponge roller i distribute it evenly over my stencil apply the paint from the outside in this way the paint is less inclined to leech under the stencil and this way you're assured of a nice sharp edge i start with the middle cat then i create the cats either side you'll notice i have taped on extra sheets of copy paper over the areas that may accidentally run into with the roller i will say at this point too that i have created all three cats on my canvas but this is not compulsory you might like to only use one cat on your artwork or you might like to print out your pdf much larger and create a bigger project as i have said on numerous occasions it is nice to use these lessons as an inspirational guide sometimes and put your own spin on it lastly i put in the last cat the crouching cat and that's the stenciling gun so now let's add the shadows cast from our crazy kaleidoscope cats now the shadows are multi-coloured but we still need a profile line to use as a guide and you draw them in like this you will notice i've used the offcuts and have blue tacked them upside down and a little in front beneath each silhouette i then profile each cat with a pencil to the bottom of the offcut and join the lines to the ground point of each cat silhouette this way the approximate shape is faithfully reproduced in a mirror image with an acceptable amount of stretching that you kind of get when a shadow is cast working out shadows can be a real brain strain and if they don't fall in a believable way the whole thing will look wrong to the viewer even on a stylized work like this now we have the profiles we can break them into segments like this this step is going to be different depending on each artist i am basically building up the shapes inside the shadow with a series of triangles i create them at different angles and sizes and make the way they relate to each other different on each cat i think on a project like this the more detailed the shadow the more interest there will be when color is added for color i'm using montmartre acrylic in the 12 pack i start by laying out every color in the pack onto an easy clean palette i use a montmartre number five flat tackling to paint on my colors and i start with the lemon yellow again it is up to the artist to choose what shape to color where i paint the yellow on all three cat shadows then i move to cobalt and paint this in i'll then lay in some ultramarine after i have all of my chosen shapes painted in with this color i add some crimson this is the darker of the two reds in the pack i then paint on some vermillion vermilion is a very warm red and it's almost an orange i then lay on some lime green that i mix from viridian lemon yellow i then make a nice bright orange mixed from crimson and lemon yellow after this bright orange is applied i add a kind of violet colour mixed from purple made from crimson and ultramarine and then mixed with white well i really hope you enjoyed that it was a ton of fun and if you haven't subscribed to our creative connection yet don't forget to do that until next time remember to keep on painting see you next time you
