i'm going down to the house of sausage i got my barbecue shoes on i'm going down to the house come to barbecuepitboys.com today we're going to do a holiday ham roast on the grill and it's real easy to do all right this here is a ham butt end it's a bone-in half-hand it's got a lot of meat and flavor in it makes a perfect ham serving on a holiday table all right this is real easy to do here and this uh this ham here weighs about seven pounds we're gonna put it in this shallow pan and uh we got some pineapple juice here we're gonna cover the bottom of the pan and maybe come up about a half inch or so and we're gonna roast this ham indirect opposite the hot coals at about 300 degrees fahrenheit and here i'm adding some wood chips because we want to produce a light smoky flavor for this ham all right we've been cooking this ham now for about 45 minutes and uh every once in a while you want to come in and baste it a little bit and uh use a baster if you don't have a baster well uh use your imagination all right we want to keep it moist now while we're waiting for this ham to cook we're going to make up a glaze a real simple glaze here now this is an off-the-shelf glaze it's probably got some pineapple or apricot in it choose a ham glaze your favorite ham glaze or you can uh make one of ours and here i've got a little bit of cherry juice pour it in there and we're going to add a few tablespoons of soy sauce we want a lot of that sweet and salty taste to go on this ham oh yeah man all right we're about an hour and a half into this barbecue and now we're going to add some pineapple some cherries some of that glaze because this is a holiday ham maybe you want to impress your girly or your boss we're gonna make it look real pretty and here i've got some toothpicks going in through uh some cherries and then we're gonna hang some of these pineapple slices on real pretty now we're going to throw some of that glazing sauce on there i'm going to add a little bit of smoke a few more wood chips you don't want to overdo it you wanted a light smoky flavor on this ham all right about another hour hour and a half to go all right through the miracle of time we're about uh two hours into this we're gonna spin this ham around get some even cooking going on you know all about that i'm gonna throw on some more of this glaze oh yeah man it smells good all right maybe another hour to go all right this holiday ham is just about done but the best way to check is to use your instant read thermometer you want to get the internal temperature in around the bone in the deepest part about 150 degrees fahrenheit it's perfect now what we want to do here is uh we're going to rest this ham i'm going to pull these toothpicks out oh man you smell that it smells good now we're gonna rest it wrap it in some aluminum foil and let it sit for at least a half hour all right i'd say it's time to eat oh yeah lord have mercy pull it out of the pan whoa grab some more of them pineapple slices i'd say it's time to slice this up oh yeah real moist and tender and see how juicy this is now you don't need one of them fancy hams spiral cuts those whole smoked hams these hams are very inexpensive you can find them anywhere look at that hey mama's gonna love you on this shoes i think we're going to plate some of this up now it's a holiday so we got all the fix oh yeah now of course uh i do apologize we're gonna have to eat some of this right in front yeah good so the next time you're looking for a recipe for your barbecue you check out barbecuepitboys.com
