this is Brandon from big green art and you're welcome to this video on how to plant willow for basket making or I should say willow can plant itself if you threw a willow road on the ground it would grow so this is really about proprietary of plants so that basket making willow could compete with each other and grow long straight roads we use straight clean that is branch free roads to make the cuttings and these are cut into twelve inch lengths a point at the bottom and then I cut the top straight across she cut no more than three cuttings per rod well oh really likes sunny ground and it also likes to grow without competition so I choose a ground cover this allows the ground to breathe and the reason to get in the cover is really to weed the plants until the leaves themselves provide appropriate ground cover once the ground cover is speeded in around the four edges I mark out with chalk roughly the spacing say that's 400 to 450 mils between each plant after the mat is chopped I tend to make the hole with a long poker so that the willow road is not damaged when your person is released into the ground and I don't plant in straight rows I like it to be a bit more random the track is not too close and not too far apart and then when you have your cuttings ready I normally use a glove to help push the rods into the ground as far as possible and there should be at least two buds left above the ground when you're finished we plant willow in the winter which for us in the northern hemisphere is botanic tuber and March it's important to make sure that you plant the cuttings the right way up that is little buds should be pointing straight up in the sky wellö comes in many different varieties it's important that you use a variety which likes your ground some will just doesn't grow at all in your geographical region so if you can get hands at different varieties and then you can use those rods for future settings further down the line if you've got any questions about this video please leave a comment below the video and we'll get back to you as soon as we can this channel really hopes to cover all aspects of willow weaving so there's anything you'd like to see please get in touch with us and don't forget to subscribe to big green heart
