To prune a red or black currant bush, the
technique is the same. First, prune the shrub to clean it up and
thin it out. Keep only the most vigorous branches. After that, proceed to a fruit-inducing
pruning to get a nicer harvest. Before the pruning itself, eliminate old
or damaged branches, as well as those touching or crossing each other.
Doing so will keep diseases from spreading and will let air and light circulate inside the shrub.
Beautify the tree by removing branches that grow in an undesired
direction. On every one of the vigorous branches
you've kept, count three to five eyes. cut Cut slantwise so the rainwater runs off from
the cut mark, otherwise the bud might rot or freeze. Pay particular attention to
where the last bud is placed on the branch, because this will determine how
the shrub will expand in the following year.
