hey guys I'm Tanya Curran the scale Imam here at scale adventures and I'm here with my favorite child on her hey guys here's and we're out here in the woods we've got a fire ring here we want to talk to you today about making a fire to stay safe in case you're out in the woods I do all right let's get out the supplies here let's do it so here we have our backpack these are lightweight and these are things that you can carry to to be safe yes we have a basic fire starting and knife sharpening tool here magnesium spark lighter right and we have a container filled with dried cotton it's good if you are ever outside and it gets soaking wet that way it will not get wet what we're going to do is we're gonna take the cotton and we're just gonna basically pull it out and stretch it out into a nice little nest nest and while Pierce is doing that as you can see we made a little firing here to keep the fire safe and contained we did this away from anything else so nothing else can catch fire and I always remember if you make a fire don't ever walk away from it you want to make sure it's completely out before you leave next what we want to do is we want to take our fire starting tool and we want to get this out here mm-hmm and this magnesium strip right here is great to have also because it is water resistant so even if it gets wet it still works so you want to take this right here you want to start scratching off this material here and it's going it kind of looks like shavings of iron but what it's gonna do is it's going to create a base for you to start your fire with it's your magnesium start very good then what you do is you take this little strip here you simply just scratch against it okay what you do so you just take it and you move it right on move it on in there and your little leaves your dried leaves that you have under there will catch fire you can blow on it put a little bit of air if you need to and as you can see Pierce is adding just a little bit more out of time and this teepee of sticks will act as a way to catch fire and make it bigger all right Pierce yes it will and remember don't start a fire unless you have permission from your parents and try to stay clear in a clear area away from roots of trees and anything like that that's right you guys stay safe and for more survival tips like this stay tuned to scaly adventures calm and we'll see you there
