what's up YouTube this is cliff from the Sunday Drive today we're gonna be showing you how to add a light in someone's face no today we're going to show you how to change the front differential fluid on your 2014 Plus silverado we're going to be using as amsoil and this is their 75 90 severe gear they do sell a slightly lower grade quality as well so this is their highest grade you can buy and the 1500 Silverado uses 1.5 quarts or three pints something else I would suggest getting is this hand pump which will screw right into the top of your containers that you get from an oil both the court and the gallon sized jugs and this will make it a lot easier refilling your differential but Ann's expensive I know it's really expensive I spent a lot of money for this change I'm doing my transmission my front differential my transfer case and my rear differential so I needed a lot of fluid but if you join their preferred customer program not a sponsored video but if you do join this you get the same prices as the dealers do or very close to it so well worth the investment especially if you do all your own maintenance here the tools that we're gonna need to perform the front fluid change eighteen millimeter 10 millimeter 15 millimeter as well as a 3/8 driver and a torque wrench first we're going to go ahead and remove the belly pan you have two 15 millimeter bolts up front one here one here four 10 millimeter bolts holding in the rear all right so here's our front differential this is our fill right here it's about two inches across and it takes a 18 millimeter socket now you always want to check your fill first before removing your drain plug because if some reason this is seized up and you can't remove it you're going to be in a pickle because you're not gonna be able to add fluid back in here at least not very easily until you somehow get that out so always check your fill plug first so we're gonna take this off and then down here we have a drain plug and that takes a 3/8 driver so you're just gonna stick your three driver right in there you can see it's indented that goes right in there so check this then drain here alright we got it out so just take your 3/8 inch drive stick that right in there and these shouldn't be too tight because the torque specs on these are very low it's 24 foot-pounds for both the drain and the fill that's gonna shoot out further to messy that's most bad now you want to make sure your truck is level so even though I'm up on ramps right now I also have the rear jacked up a bit to level it out your drain plug is magnetic so you want to check it and see if there's a lot of stuff on there if there is you might have a problem kind of see what we got on there mostly just some goop a little bit of filings but nothing major and this is why you want to make sure you keep fresh fluid in there all better all right so we're actually gonna go ahead and measure how much fluid we took out of there now this is the first differential change up front since I've got the truck it has 61 thousand miles on it and we're gonna see how much fluid came out of the front DIF look at that it's like chocolate syrup it's not cooking it was have the exactly 16 no we need it to be exact for the subscribers we care about you guys all right there's point number two all right two and a half points all right we got most of it out of there as you can see we're just over two and a half pints right now so we didn't make it to the three pints if we got 100% of the fluid we had drained out there we'd probably be about two and three quarters plus there's probably a little bit left in the diff of the old fluid but overall we're about maybe a quarter of a pint low all right now that's finished mostly draining out just go ahead and wipe that up we're gonna go ahead and reinstall the drain plug and then torque it down to 24 foot-pounds if anything using the torque wrench just protects you from accidentally over tightening this all right now we can fill er up all right now with our hand pump installed on my AMSOIL quart we're gonna pump this up now this will take three pints or one and a half of these bottles now it's very important to have your truck level at this point there it comes one thing to note there is a gasket on the fill plug that is something you probably want to rebait replace every once in a while just check it see if it looks dried out or cracked it off this one looks to be in pretty good shape again the truck only has 61 thousand miles on it so it should still be good to go but definitely make sure you inspect that every time and then go ahead and reinstall your fill plug and this also gets torqued down to 24 foot-pounds alright guys that's it that's your front differential fluid change now I need to reinstall the belly pan I'm going to do that next but that's all you guys need to know thanks for watching if you liked this video please give it a big thumbs up and subscribe for a lot more content on my 2014 Silverado
