the bottom of the 1996 Starcraft and I'm just showing you a little bit of damage that we sustained last year when we actually hit a rock that was hidden in the lake jump right out at us a little bit of cracking here I'm not too concerned about that it still seemed solid but there's some missing chunks that I'm going to fill with the gelcoat repair kit gelcoat is simply just fiberglass resin that's tinted so you can buy some inexpensive kits that are easy to to repair so it's just a matter of cleaning up the area getting rid of the sharp edges with the light sanding or grinding and then we can just mix up the resin and apply it fill it let it harden and then go boating so this is the gel coat repair kit that I bought was 30 bucks at the local marina and it comes with everything you need this is just the white kit it comes with a clear plastic sheet which we've already applied sandpaper 600 grit and then it comes with the hardener and the gel kool paste I'm not too concerned with the color here because it is the the back bottom of the boat so you won't see it if it's a mismatch but there is kits that if you have a colored hole you can actually tint the the resin to be exactly like your hull so I'm going to come in here with a little drill and and just hone these out a little bit not going to touch the fiberglass mesh that's in there just getting rid of the sharp edges will apply the gel coat let it set up and then we'll go boating I'll tape off a little area here and then we can sand that down and then fill in the holes that we you want to take one teaspoon of the paste now we're going to mix four drops are harder I may say you have about a 15-minute working time with the resin mixed up we're just going to spatula Thanh the holes smoother there is the best you can once you've got that covered up and you take that clear film that they supply you with press it onto here to make it nice and smooth all right and you let it sit two hours and we can peel this off lovely we'll see in two hours
