Please explain how to care for fern houseplants | house plant tour

[Applause] [Applause] hey guys so I want to ask you a few questions first off do you think ferns are beautiful if you do raise your hand second question are you afraid of ferns if so raise your other hand okay so did you have one or both hands raised either way this is the perfect video for you to watch because today I wanted to show you all the ferns that I have at my house that have I've been successful with and I feel pretty confident that if I'm successful with them then you will be too these are ferns that I grow in my real house if you have a greenhouse you can grow anything in it you know but I want my plants my personal plants to be around me and to be part of the decoration and something that I can enjoy all the time while I'm relaxing in my home so that's what kind of ferns these are friends that live right here in my house with me and for all of you that don't know I live in Utah it's not the easiest climate for growing ferns for sure it's a desert in the winters it's you know 20s 30s 40° outside we get snow we have to have our heaters on in the house and our wood-burning stoves and it dries out the air and so that's what we deal with in the winter in the summer it gets pretty darn hot probably usually in the 90s in the summer but a lot of the times it's over 100 so and it's very dry very dry here so let's get into the plants the first plant it that I have is the Boston fern I listed that one first it's probably the most difficult of the ferns that I have the scientific name is Neff ellipses exaltata Boston Ian cysts and it helps from humid forests since and then at some point it was mutated the first plant was a sword fern and then it got mutated either on a boat a ship full of ferns that were sent to Boston or else it may have happened in a plant nursery in Florida and they later sent the ferns to some of their friends in Boston and that's how it got the name Boston fern it likes lots of indirect light it likes the temperature to be 55 to 75 degrees preferably and they like the cooler and if that range the best they love humidity so that's something that I lack in my house if you get brown leaf tips or probably not giving your plant enough humidity the next plant is the kangaroo pot fern scientific name micro Sorum diver fo Liam and as the name suggests is from Australia and this plant adapts to lots of different environments it likes indirect light but it's also tolerant of partial shade it likes humidity and moisture however I let mine dry out before watering and I don't give it any special treatment in regards to humidity and it's been doing just great okay the next plant is called the mother fern and the mother ferns scientific name is a spleen iam bull buffering is from New Zealand a nice thing about this one is that the foliage won't brown and crisp like the Boston fern for instance or even the kangaroo fern it lives and thrives in a wide range of light situations it's easy to water I'll show you how I water mine it's actually not what's recommended but and I'm a change to the recommended watering but I'm not sure so this plant is non-toxic it's called the mother fern because it actually grows its babies on its leaves and then the weight of the fronds in the wild anyway they would reach down towards the Earth and then the little babies girl sprouts and then there you go they just spread all over the forest so in our environment we could just set little pots beneath all of the babies and they'll root up and voila you've got another new little baby plant and so as far as the watering ghosts I was telling you I let my dry out but upon further study I real I learned that this plant actually likes to sit in water because it grew like near waterfalls and such so I think I might be moving mine to a bowl of water okay next fern is the asparagus fern family I've already done a video about the care for asparagus firm so I'm just gonna put the link right above here okay and the last fern that I have to share with you is called the Hartford scientific name is heavy and itis arif olia and this one likes medium to bright light it likes to stay moist at all times so it's perfect for people plant people who like to overwater and its native to Sri Lanka Vietnam and possibly China and Taiwan and this plant was actually tested on rats because it may have some antidepressants NNE testing on humans but there was some success with the rats in controlling their glucose levels I hope this video helps you find a fern that you might want to give a chance because it's just so darn purty really these ones are all easy to take care so if you guys have any other friends that you've had success with I'd love to hear about them because I'm really loving the whole fun family if there's any of these friends like which one do you guys like the best which one he thinks the best-looking and then to be watching for a video this week from me and Harley we've actually got something exciting that relates to the heartburn that was in this video I hope you guys all have a great day I hope you have a great week and remember to plan on so this little guy is droopy as you can see so what I've been doing is just first I'll test the water make sure it's lukewarm because it's a little nibbly outside okay that feels good so I'll just go ahead and give this guy a real nice drink then once it's about to run over I'll turn it off and this baby will perk up like within the next hour or so
