welcome back and welcome to my kitchen today I'm gonna do a little DIY more of a demo really about how to clean up those grungy thrift store and yard sale finds that you that you get so I've got a couple of tools that I really really like the first one is mr. Clean Magic Erasers these are fantastic for tidying things up I like googan to take the sticky off I like acetone this is 100% acetone but you could also use nail polish remover so this is good for cleaning some things like ink off of if somebody's drawn on something with or take it a little bit of glue off sometimes if the glue gun goo gone doesn't work hard just crime exactly how I use this but we'll see if we come up with some examples today and just plain old dishwashing liquid so let's get started I got this set of canisters so there's some grease pencil on there there's set of three here so whether it's a chocolate ball in the water so of course the first thing you're gonna do is give them a good wash looks like somebody's donated these but didn't actually you know wash the sugar out or anything so we'll just take the whole food out and then we get more work of the more stubborn price I was thinking this little mammal we're set would be really cute on a coffee bar cuz it's just sugar coffee and tea it's kind of a nice size and its really I think it really goes with the modern farmhouse decor vibe that we're seeing I don't know where these came from I don't I don't imagine they're vintage but they are cute I didn't pay very much for these either I think I got them at Value Village a couple weeks ago they were I want to say $5.99 okay so there's that so the next thing I'm going to do is pick a piece of paper towel and dcv markers on here so we'll just spritz a little of the goo gone on there and give that a rub it takes a little elbow grease but you're not scratching it and that's the last thing you want to do is scratch your enamel we're all right so that's second piece there it's really dry on we'll give it another dose of the goo gun to see if that's helpful and if not so good god is pleasant smelling like I think it smells like oranges to me it's kind of a gel I mean you do have to use it in well-ventilated areas but it's not you know it doesn't catch in your throat or anything like that it's it's Pleasant okay so that took that grade off the next thing is and you see where these marks are here just kind of wet the sponge a bit and then give that a rub and see it takes it right off now I couldn't do that with the paper towel I have no idea what kind of Voodoo is in these things that allows them to take these marks off I have no idea but it's pretty great see if there's anything else on here it needs a rub I think that the law and it's a little grubby down here and that just cleaned it right up you couldn't do that with just a plain old dishcloth so I'm gonna put that back in the water and tidy it up here that looks good this'll scrub I have to watch for sales on these magic roses they can be kind of pricey I often find sometimes for them though so both online and they come in with the newspaper looks good so the next one I want to show you is this piece of milk glass paid two dollars for it I think it's Avon it's probably Avon has this lid and it was taped to the two pieces were taped together and it is super super sticky grubbé just plain old hot water so I really like the flowers on this those hyacinths and daisies and roses and I don't know what was in it but can you imagine how pretty that would be with a tea light in it glowing through there wouldn't put a lid on okay so that feels clean everything you'd watch a video of somebody washing dishes that's weird so there is no lasting stickiness on there but if there had been I would have either used the acetone or the goog on to take that off that kind of looks like that snowflake which is unusual because it's well I guess you can call that a flower because it is got flowers okay now I have another do you what I've mixed up the lids that lid goes with this piece and this piece what the flowers goes on the other one all right now you can see this one is a lot grubby er it's got a lot of dirt in the cracks and crevices they're soaked and just to make sure we've got shining white we'll use our magic eraser to really dig that yeah see how dirty it is it just really digs that grime out of the indents and furrows all right I'm pretty pleased with that I'm sure where I got this I have a $2.00 sticker on it so I think I got it okay I got it at Salvation Army okay there's a couple of grubby books there at Magic Eraser just takes that right off okay this piece of glass I'm worried about scrubbing it too hard because I don't want to take the gold trim off of it that one doesn't have a name so I'm not sure where it came from but this is the one head tape on it hmm crack their price take you so this gives you a time a chicken salmon your piece look for any flaws look for any hints as to its history and as you can see just really good hot water and soap is really effective with cleaning these items don't have to go crazy crazy but hot as you can stand give those servants all right so I got this the Christmas ornament and it's filthy dirty it's like a porcelain I don't like the rope hanger cut that off now I have to be careful with because I don't want to have any paint loss but at the same time it's not very enjoyable this filthy so I would not use the acetone on that because the acetone would probably take the paint right off again I'm going to just use my magic eraser and push that into the depressed areas see what we can do to lift up some of that dirt back is really Jerry I don't know where this cow's bin now you see there is a piece of paint there that I wouldn't mind losing god be careful see the paint's coming off on there so I'm gonna give the acetone a try see if I can get that red blob a paint off stick you there for a minute while I get a minute paper towel I like this some brand of paper towels because it gives you the half sheets it's because I don't need a whole sheet for these little jobs so acetone it's used to remove nail polish my husband also uses this to clean parts of his guitars I'm not sure what parts of his guitars but I stole it from his workbench so we got our cow again and we're just gonna use this acetone and look at that if that wouldn't wash off with the washcloth that wouldn't wash off with the mr. clean but it came right off with the acetone ooh no I took off some of his whole - gotta be super careful I can probably touch that up again with a little bit of paint so you can get some of this ruddiness out of here no I'm super sad about taking its hoof off oh I do have some black paint downstairs they can just use a little brush and fix that right up this came from Salvation Army was after Christmas give him a soak he was a it was a cat Christmas so I think maybe I paid a quarter for it okay so there are some still some grubby mess in there so I'm gonna just put some more acetone here and I have got a toothpick so I'm just kind of wetting down the toothpick there and creeping in these pieces it's really effective yeah he's much much handsomer or maybe it says she I don't know that batters your said something else around his ear inside his ear he's got some ear boogies his little mouth so I can change out that that rope-like ornament hanger for something a little more classy all right mr. Chow look I'm good looking fantastic all right well let you dry right there he's not necessarily Christmassy in fact if I wanted to change out his ribbon I could use the acetone to take the ribbon right off and repaint it with a blue to match my kitchen or something this little beauty this was also a Salvation Army 25 cent find she has some misplaced paint on her her gosh first we get any of that misplaced paint off I like her she was 50 cents oh no she could have been 56 I paid 12 cents work and it's marked 1979 Jasco so I'll start with a little bit of Google to take off that sticker pretty easy it seems to be a little bit discolored so will their perfect but you can see there's a little bit of red paint down here a little bit of red paint on her dress so I'm just using a little bit of the goog on its I don't know if this is transfer some from some packaging but I'm scared to do too much to it because I don't want to take off the underpaint there's a bit more on her head all right Google it's not working it's pretty perfect her dress at the back looks kind of grubby that freshens her right up so give your face a wash little thing so for 12 cents you know this is kind of a cute little piece this would be cute like on a fireplace and you know put some matches in there could put tea light in there that's kind of been done and done hasn't it so she's had some paint loss here I could touch that up if I wanted to but I like her that way I like her bunny and then like her frilly dress it's gonna take a while for the water to drain out of that because it does have these open holes so we'll just put that there this is another Christmas ornament that needs a bath I don't want to get it too wet it's American greeting cards it says 1995 grandma's cookies so we'll just kind of go in there with some of my stuff this was the acetone I don't want that anywhere near it this was the goog on and starting to take it off but not perfect so let's try mr. clean mr. clean wins again okay like I said I don't want to get him to it because I don't want the stickers to fall off there's that and the last one I'm gonna do today is this coffee pot that I got it's really quite gross inside are you fees first so they don't get shipped or at least any mark ship then I would have already done a little ham-fisted to say the least so this coffee pot I think it's in really good shape I had an in-n-out tripped all couple weeks ago and I was really surprised okay there's something sticky give you a blast and goo gone how expensive it was because usually at these thrift stores they see a piece of enamel where and it met and automatically proclaim it to be worth one zillion dollars when really I mean it is valuable to somebody who really really likes it but I'm I'm cheap so goo gone is taken all of the yucky in the outside the yucky on the inside so there's rust in there that's probably not going to come off but we'll give it a bite anyway and on the inside where it's really super stained we have to make a decision about how clean we want it so we can take off and I want to use my dishcloth on that so don't stay in my dishcloth we can take off the surface dirt and then if we really are concerned about how clean this is what I do is fill it up with very hot water and Oh poured a cup of joe vex bleach I guess and then just let it sit for a few hours I might do that I've got got some bleach handy here and then so I hope you enjoyed watching me do dishes and maybe that's demystified some of the cleaning methods for these old pieces and maybe encouraged you to take a second look at some of the the grubbies pieces you see at yard sales and auctions and thrift stores give him a chance um thinking I might paint or paint something on there or I just got a Cricut machine I might do a vinyl decal on there something something cute and that or I could even take the lid off and put a plant in there yeah the idea is there are pretty endless so I hope you are enjoying your day and that you'll come back and visit me again and watch another video if you like my video give it a thumbs up consider subscribing because I'm always doing something different and we'll talk to you soon
