I'm Jeremy from F.H. Steinbart Company, and
today we'll be doing a beer brewing tutorial on behalf of Expert Village. The receipt,
that we're using, for this stout calls for Chinook Hops and Goldings Hops. Your receipt,
may vary a little bit as to what hops and what quantity of hops, it says to use in there.
It looks like we're going to put two ounces, of Northern Brewer Hops in first and these
are the hops that are going to give us most of our bitterness, not too much aroma coming
out of these guys. So, we'll go ahead and take our scale, weigh these out and we don't
have to be exact here but we want to be within about an eighth of an ounce or so. While we're
doing this, we can take the opportunity to smell our hops and they smell quite nice,
very floral. Hops are actually the flowers off the climbing Hop vine. Go ahead and drop
the hops in here, so with these hops in, we're going to boil for about 50 minutes until all
those nice wonderful aromas, of these hops, have actually gone out into the air and we're
just left with the bitter properties of these hops. We'll be adding our Goldings Hops, at
the very end of the boil and those will give us more aroma and a little bit of flavor but
not so much bitterness. This allows us to keep our beer in balance and have a complex
hot profile.
