hi my name is christina govinda with domesticfelicity.com and today we're going to talk about how to harden material with starch for this you'll need spray starch your material that you want to iron and an ironing board and of course an iron when ironing fabric if you're doing a garment especially you might want to try and turn it inside out and iron the underside of it so we're going to turn our garment and lay it down and smooth it out and try and get as much of the garment on your ironing board to iron at one time as possible if you're ironing a large piece go ahead and do it in sections we're going to take our can of spray starch and we're going to shake it really well have your iron already set to the recommended fabric temperature and then we're going to take our spray starch hold it at a 45 degree angle about 6 to 10 inches away from the fabric and spray evenly now we're going to take our iron going with the grain of the fabric going to iron it evenly down be sure not to press too hard because then you could cause the fabric to stretch or strain now your fabric should have a nice amount of stiffness to it if you want it to be extra stiff go ahead and take your spray starch shake it really good again and then spray your fabric one more time evenly take your iron and do the exact same thing if you're working in sections go ahead and move on to the next section and that's how you harden fabric with starch
