you howdy Rex here today we're going to do this snakeskin effect camouflage I'm going to do it on an a we're going to show you the little tricks how to get that cool scale like pattern I really dig the snakeskin effect pattern it it just it's really effective I mean snakes got pretty good camouflage on him God put it on him so he knows what he's doing for sure yeah and it's just not only does it look cool but it's pretty effective as far as that you know you put it up against a concrete or get some sander in an arid environment and the snakeskin effect desert camo job does does the trick for you so first thing you're going to want to do so you don't want to pick up some dirt coat you're going to want like a light tan or a desert beige color that's going to be your base coat you're going to want the desert beige brown as in that kind of like reddish brown that they got in the three color desert camel or it's the darker one of the three colors in the three color US desert camel or even the six color US desert camo like from Desert Storm there's that kind of medium brown you'll want that color and then you're also going to need some black and you're going to need coyote ten so that's the four colors you need the desert beige the desert brown the black and the coyote tan okay first thing you're going to want to do just like any other time you're paying these things is you're going to want to make sure that you totally strip that weapon down I'm talking like get your degreaser I'll get your brake cleaner and totally get all the grease off take the safety off take the parts out if you can get out a toothbrush and scrub it down wipe it off with a clean rag with that degreasing agent if you have even a tiny bit of oil even the oil from your hands gets on there and that stuff is not going to stick very well you can also rough up the surface of the metal or whatever you're going to apply that the Finnish tube so that it gets better adhesion because uh if it's too like polished or too shiny and won't grab as well either so best way to do it probably be to sandblast it if you got the opportunity or can even use steel wool or sandpaper but make sure you got that thing completely clean after you get it completely clean tape off all the stuff that you're not going to want painted just get some blue masking tape works pretty good for that doesn't leave sticky stuff behind tape off like the inside of the action places you don't want overspray them into your sights if you got optics or move them from the weapon obviously or make sure you really seal up the lenses so you don't get any overspray on that that would be a bad deal all right after you got everything cleaned up and you got your everything taped off gonna want to apply your base coat all right we got the base coat down already there's a desert beige I threw in some matte black stripes and next we're going to put in this desert brown after that we'll uh net it and then we'll hit it with the coyote down and it should give a pretty cool effect so here we go all right before you start your project you want to make sure you have a big can of this stuff if you don't have that bad things are going to happen this stuff is nasty it's sticky it's messy it gets everywhere so and I need a lot of that just to clean up your airbrush also you're going to want to make sure to put a lot of this through your airbrush if you even take a break for like five seconds because if you don't clean it immediately it's toast this is like a five dollar airbrush captain Bob's discount airbrush but it's worked for like I don't know ten years so no problem so far mmm looks like pudding yeah I reckon it should be enough I'm just doing some striping it's wiped this stuff off mostly save yourself a pretty good headache pay attention to the ratios sometimes this will really gum up in the in the airbrush see you god I like either put reducing agent in it or I use some lacquer thinner I just add it in there to thin it up so that it actually sprays out the nozzle it's been pissed because it's been so hot just gumming up everywhere so hey I'm gonna put some of this on here just a DAB you don't always have to do that just you know play it by ear also want to make sure your air pressure is adjusted properly I'm going to put her right below 40 but you just need to like play if it and see what works for you so at least practice on a blank spot obviously he's doing real life so in there so it looks goofy at first but that's going to be those three colors really are going to be your true base coat and then the black and the brown you don't need to lay it on thick because that beige should have already been here your thick part of the base of the foundation the base coat so the black and the brown just go ahead and make sure it's fully colored just lay it on enough to where the colors on there you don't have to lay it on real thick or anything so after you got you those three coats let it totally dry for a few hours or whatever to wear it it's not tacky or anything like that after that sets up it's pretty simple after that you basically take this knitting material and you're going to put the netting material over the weapon and the next color you're going to get out is your coyote tan it's a little darker than the desert beige and you're going to kind of lightly dust not evenly but like in a kind of a pattern like fashion you're going to dust it with the the coyote tan over the beige part and over the black and brown stripes until you kind of almost make it monochromatic but not really to where that the stripes are still showing through but it's kind of faded into there and what you're going to do if you do this properly or you're holding your netting down as you're doing this is you're going to have your little scale marks or your little up the little circles that are in the netting the background is going to be the light color desert beige against a real of just a slightly lighter coyote tan or you're going to have the black and the brown as the backing so it's going to look a little goofy at first but once you start doing this you'll see what I'm talking about alright as you can see after we applied the base coat colors the real light beige the brown and the black we got some of this material from a craft store like this and we put it over the base colors and we applied some coyote tan kind all over the whole weapon with the airbrush after that let it dry for a few minutes and we got out to black again and we touched up the black a little more to add more dimension to it with this as well then it makes kind of a neat little pattern here and just take your time kind of look where it needs a little more darker a little more light to add more contrast and depth to it but that's how it turned out so what we're going to do next is we are going to apply a clear coat as I think this is pretty good so we're just going to give it clear coat here now the trick with a clear coat is you need to basically if you wanted matte or gloss there's a technique difference it's the same clear coat you'd use to either get a mat or a gloss finish this is actually labeled matte clear but if you're too close and you laid on too thick it actually is going to turn out to be kind of glossy so you want to make sure that your airbrush is backed away from the deal and yet you don't lay it on too thick because it'll kind of pool up so just give it a light dusting lay it on your real thin coats and it will actually stay kind of a matte color for you so let's go ahead and apply that matte coat then we'll see how she looks where she's all done so here's what the final product looks like after we're all finished and I thought it turned out pretty cool it was actually a real easy one to apply it's like 50 times easier to do this this paint job than it is to do one of the digital ones that require like the templates and stuff that's very tedious work with this thing a guy could knock that out real fast it's not hard at all and now you don't need to screw around with stickers or anything like that you don't even really need to let it dry as long as you do it the template ones because it's not as fussy so and also when you're completely done what we did on this also just to seal it up after we're totally happy with it looked at it for a while as seal it up with the matte clear coat a few coats to that and that will really hold it together and make it a lot stronger and it won't wear out as fast yeah
