hey guys welcome back today I'm the untidy artist I'll be showing you how to make a glitter lace crown these are perfect for birthdays special occasions and a lot of fun to use in photo shoots let's grab a few supplies and get started the first thing you'll need is some fabric stiffener this comes in a lot of different brands I found mine at Joanne's then you'll need some lace pick a lace that is flat on the bottom and then has some nice designs and dimension on the top as you're picking out your lace imagine how it would look as a crown and the more detailed it is at the top the more detailed your crown will be then you're going to need some acrylic paint and some glitter to match it I'll be using purple some Mod Podge glue and some clear acrylic spray paint this is to help keep our glitter under control some foam paintbrushes some little cups for mixing for our glitter and our glue and then I'll be using a glass container to put my fabric stiffener in for my lace you can also use a paper cup if you like my glue gun set on low a pair of sharp scissors and then you'll either need some parchment paper some wax paper or some even tinfoil something that your fabric stiffener won't stick to and then you'll need a measuring tape or a ruler to measure with let's get started the first step is to measure out your lace to 14 inches now if you want a crown that fits bigger around your head you'll want to measure around your head and add maybe an inch I'm just doing a little promise that's right on top of your head with some bobby pins and I'm going to measure mine out to 14 inches what you want to do is follow the pattern of the lace so you can see my 14 inches ends right before the end of this piece of the lace and so I'm going to cut it so I leave that design in the lace fully intact because I'm going to be layering that over the top of itself then grab your fabric stiffener and I just poured a bunch of mine into the bottom of this glass container and put it on a protective surface and then put your lace right into the fabric stiffener I've done this where I paint the fabric stiffener onto the lace I find that this works better the more it saturates the stiffener the better the crown will hold its shape make sure that your lace soaks up as much of the fabric stiffener as possible one thing to know when you're picking out your lace lace that is 100% cotton seems to not hold its shape as well as lace that has a polyester blend to it so keep that in mind when you're picking out your lace they both work beautifully so it's just up to you so once it has soaked up a lot of your fabric stiffener lay it out and you want to make sure that none of the fabric stiffener is covering up the little holes you want to make sure that you have a nice even layer over your lace and that there aren't any big clumps of the fabric stiffener let that dry overnight works best and once it's completely dry grab your acrylic paint and in this for this crown I decided to use this gorgeous purple color and you're going to paint an even layer over your entire crown now make sure that you get in all of the little tiny holes and make sure that it's nice and even so paint the entire front let it dry if you need to add another coat do that I found that doing two coats of the paint worked best and then turn it over and paint the back you'll want to paint both sides of your lace and once your lace has completely dried grab your Mod Podge glue and put a nice even layer of the Mod Podge over your lace once again be sure that you're not filling in any of the tiny details of the lace you don't want the glue to completely fill in the little holes that gives the lace its beautiful detail and then while your glue is still wet and I move my lace from where I applied the glue onto a new sheet of paper before I put my glitter down and then while my glue still wet I'm going to sprinkle glitter over my entire crown now I know I'm sprinkling a lot of glitter here you want to cover it completely and then what I do is I lift my piece of paper up and dump my glitter back into the container so I'm not wasting any of my glitter and you can see it just transforms into this gorgeous lacy looking sparkly crown so do the front and then once that has dried you'll want to flip it over and apply some glue onto the back and then another layer of your glitter and make sure it's coated evenly pour my glitter back into my container now ideally you want your crown to dry overnight you can put it in your oven to speed up the process on a baking sheet at about 200 degrees for about 30 minutes now we're going to shape our crown so we're going to take our crown and overlap the edges so I add some glue to the inside of my crown on the detailed part of the lace trying not to fill in the holes and then we're going to overlap that part and match it directly over the top of the other side so it blends together nicely and your crown has shape it's hard to believe this used to be a piece of lace now this part is optional I take some of my clear acrylic spray paint and just spray it over my crown it seems to keep the glitter under control and that's it guys you're set you have this gorgeous sparkly lace crown that was very simple to make and very inexpensive if you have any comments or questions please post those below if you haven't subscribed
